might as well use your points and upgrade to grand deluxe package...

thx for the tip ...

unfortunately right now I'm "fighting" with SPG customer service. I try to upgrade my free night from the weekend promotion, as mentioned at spg-website, but the agent at customer service just told me that only paid nights are available for an upgrade ...

but she'll try to find out more ...

She was right. These awards cannot be upgraded in advance. However, you might be able to do so at check-in with the hotel.

She might be ... but spg.com says something else, at least from my interpretation

Room & Suite Upgrades*

Use as few as 1,000 StarpointsŪ for a room upgrade at any participating Starwood hotel or resort. Arrange for an upgrade within five days of arrival to a Specialty, Specialty Select Room, or Suite on reservations booked at RACK, COR, SET, or BAR. You may upgrade from any category of room with a Free Night Award or a paid reservation. *
Maybe it's misunderstanding, but for me it sounds like I can upgrade my free night award

This is a Free Weekends award earned from a promotion. It cannot be upgraded in advance like a standard Preferred (free) Night Award. You can trust me on that or not, but the only way to upgrade a promotional Free Weekend award is at the hotel during check-in.

It's not a matter of trust (or lack of ... ;) ), but like I said before it's pretty misunderstanding

Anyway, thanks for your explanation ^

Sheraton Grande,Bangkok.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This has now become my preferred hotel in BKK after our first visit. We arrived on mothers day so treated Mrsdrron to a limo transfer.Started the check in process in car.As we turned into Sukhumvit the driver called the hotel.waiting for us were 2 porters and an asst.Manager who escorted us to our upgrade-a grande deluxe suite.Checkin formalities completed in room as the Asst manager called the butler to bring us some tea, unpack and take 6 items for complementary laundering. Also as part of our benefits-free in room internet, free drinks in any of the 3 bars 6pm-8pm,free breakfast in the restaurant-this was an absolutely fabulous buffet with touches such as peeling your mango as you wanted it.
On top of all this there was 30% of food in their restaurants. Both nights we were here we went to Basil their thai restaurant-absolutely fantastic. The soft shell crab was the best we had ever had so we had 3 serves the second night.Duck with Tamarind sauce was excellent.First night 3 appetisers,2 mains-B1500.On the second night the staff remembered us by name.7 appetisers-B1200.
Mrsdrron christened our suite the Overture suite-room 1812.It was a combination of a deluxe and grande deluxe rooms so 2 full bathrooms-

The Deluxe and Grande Deluxe Rooms are the same. The only difference is the Grand Deluxe Benefits. But yes, the 12 series suites do have 2 full bathrooms where the end of the hall suites only have 1 full bath (but a bigger full bath with a larger shower w/built in seat).

The SGS has been a favourite for many Plats for a long time. ;)

I was there again last weekend. They still have floors 27-33 closed due to low (averaging 50-60%, but just under 50 when I was there) occupancy and Basil and Rossini's still only open in the evening.

Additional Discount at SGS?

Hi,

I have two 3 night stays in and out of Bangkok in August while on business in SEA. I really liked my last stay at SGS. Best rate I find at *wood and other websites is third night free (although not at lowest rate - so three nights is 12000 bt++). As this is still above my per diem, I'm wondering if a direct contact with someone at the hotel would produce a lower rate - given their low occupancy and my total need of six nights - or are the website rates the bottom line.

If so, does anyone have a name of a contact at the SGS that might help?

Is it your experience that waiting a bit longer will produce a lower rate?

Or do I bite the bullet and pay the difference out of pocket?

Thanks!

4000 a night is a GREAT deal for the SGS! With more than 50 stays, I have never paid less than that!

I can't imagine getting a much better rate at the SGS. The third night free is usually what produces the best rate for me there and I dont think the hotel will make you any deal either.

Kalboz Jun 21, 2009 5:10 am

I agree with the above two. You get the 4000 rate with the Z6R promo which is the lowest I have ever seen for SGS. I don't know how you getting this rate with pay two stay three -- Z3R?

But if you are interested in receiving 30% discount on food only at the Orchid Cafe' lunch or dinner buffet, go here: http://upg.starwoodpromos.com/?u=T73S5FAF6D66Z4S

Reefdiver is correct. Upgrade to a Grande Deluxe room for 1500 baht or 1500 Starwood points. The instant reward for the buffet breakfast is 2,250 Starwood points. Saturday Brunch is 3,750 Starwood points.

Or, 4000 baht roundtrip. Mercedes Benz S-Class is 2700 baht or 5000 baht r/t.

Traveling with my wife and luggage, and after a long day-plus of travel, I like to have someone meeting me with a nice spacious clean car. So I'll pre-arrange to have a car meeting me, and it'll run about 1200 THB. And I'm more than happy to pay that over grabbing a cab.

Now if we want to stay on topic, then how about 'what does SGS charge for transfers?'

Any recommendations on which service to use? Or does SGS provide transfers?
