There is a Taxi Service sign (Yellow sign) as you exit the baggage area and with 1200bht you could have a Van, if you have lots of luggage or 4-500 bht taxi. Please make sure they take toll roads all the way b/c traffic jam is horrendous. We were in BKK a couple of weeks ago.

Pretty obvious though. Not that it was a problem, just an observation....

It did not offend me and I know what you mean about Pattaya but that is just not what you normally see around the pool area at the SGS. I am quite sure they dont have any rules about a guy taking his "girlfriend" to the pool with him but the SGS is not the normal scene for those type of tourist. Most of the time it is easy to tell but dont assume every westerner with a Thai lady is one of those situations, saying that as a westerner married to a Thai. :)

How did you know they were "hookers"? Were they wearing their membership badges on their swimsuits?

Do you recommend this hotel or the Westin Grand Sukhumvit?

Thank you!!!

I personally prefer the Westin, the rooms felt a bit more modern.
Location wise the hotels are literally across the street from each other.
For a honeymoon type stay you will probably enjoy the Sheraton.

No, not at the SGS! You check-in at the check-in desk in the lobby.

You're right. Private check-in only at WGS.

I wouldn't call the lounge private. Private, IMO, is when they escort you directly to your room and check you in there. This I've had done for me mainly at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai.

We had private in room check in at the SGS but that may have been due to using a hotel car from BKK rather than being SPG Platinum.

You may want to consider Lebua at State Tower!!!

I ONLY stay at SPG properties, but went to the 64th floor at Lebua last month for cocktails at their outdoor (yes, 64th floor) bar and restaurant.

Lebua Hotel consistently gets great reviews on TripAdvisor, however I'd go there just for the 64th/65th rooftop bar, and restaurant. IIRC its currently the world's highest rooftop bar and restaurant, and it simply has breathtaking views. Been there a few times now though only have dined there once, but superb really!

i am consistently offered private check in at the sgs which i generally decline as it takes longer. on a side note, i agree with the comments about the restaurant and bar on the 64th/65th floor of the lebua hotel. if you enjoy places like that you should try the long table bar and restaurant around the corner from the sgs. it is on i believe the 25th floor but has an outdoor area that is quite nice and includes an outdoor pool around the bar area. very nice and only a short walk from the hotel. it is owned by the bed supper club people.

Does anyone have any informations about instant awards that are offered at SGS? I'm mainly interested in some kind of "breakfast for points"-deal. I already sent an email to the hotel to that topic, but didn't get a reply yet.

might as well use your points and upgrade to grand deluxe package... Breakfast here is great, although I am on day two of missing it!
