as stated in my OP of this thread...you can use either at either brand
I believe either you are misinformed or not all properties understand this. I checked out of the Marriott Convention Way, 859 Convention Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70130. They would not accept the Ritz Carlton card. The desk clerk (Jeff) was very nice and quite professional. He tried to use it - but could not get it to work. He went to the office and was told by the GM that although they are under the same umbrella - you can not use RC gift cards at Marriott properties. Wanted you both to know. Nicksterguy |

Not saying you're wrong, but there is a third possibility: front desk and management incompetence.

What about the gift cards that are not Givex? I still have a GC that was bought 2010 (before Givex), would I be able to use it in a Marriott hotel?

Ritz gift card
The Philadelphia Marriott accepted my Ritz gift card this past weekend.

Apologies if I'm not understanding your question. Cheers. |

Maybe I'm missing something, but why would you redeem points for a $100 gift card? Or did you mean to say $1,000? It's cheaper to buy a $100 gift card than the amount of $$ it cost to earn the points on stays.
Apologies if I'm not understanding your question. Cheers. 1. How many nights would you need to stay in order to get a $100 gift card (answer: I'm not aware of any promo that yields a gift card). 2. How many nights could you stay with a $100 gift card (answer: uh, depends on the rate). 3. Aren't those red gift cards pretty? (answer: why yes, yes they are). |
Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask here...
Does anyone know if there's a maximum number of gift cards that can be used per folio / transaction? For my upcoming stay just the room costs are $1,600 so I was planning on purchasing 16 $100 GC's but I don't really want them get wasted / sitting around for a long time. Any input will be helpful. |

Why not buy a card that match your room cost? It takes a lot of time for the FD to process the GC. Even though there is no max no. of cards you can use, if you put out 16 GC to FD, you are not giving him/her a nice job.

Unfortunately, Marriott does not allow gift card consolidation. I am currently holding around 20 cards - each $100 - that I would love to combine into one. No can do.
I continue to experience unbelievably slow front desk handle times for gift cards. The FDM at a property this weekend indicated that a change was coming to the system, but didn't have specifics (and didn't exude confidence). From perspective, many international companies deal with gift cards quite well. Starbucks accepts their card worldwide. For whatever reason, Marriott can't get its act together. |
