Westin Playa Bonita, Panama [Master Thread]

We are looking to travel to Panama in Feb and would like to use our Starwood points. This property is listed on the site "not bookable yet". Does anyone know anything about when this property may open? I am guessing that they are talking over the management of the Intercontinental Playa Bonita? Any info would be much appreciated!

You didn't say which February, so I hope you don't mind waiting a bit. The best information I have is that it won't open until January 1, 2011.

Any more current info on this property? The website now states "Opening October 2011" We are looking at this property as a possible FRN getaway, but it would need to be in October for us to make it happen. When can we expect to be able to book rooms?

The scheduled soft-opening for this hotel is now slated for October 25th. No one can tell me what exact dates that rooms will be available for booking, however.

That tells me that it might be possible for the opening date to change once again.

Any word on up coming promotions for the grand opening? Doesn't SPG normally run ridiculous specials when the open new properties? My co-worker is traveling to Panama next January to visit family and wants to book this location. I've been recruited to help him find the catch of the day.

I'm aware of opening specials for new properties, but not ridiculous opening specials. Keep watching the hotel's homepage for them to eventually add a Special Offers page.

Any update? The website still claims an October opening, but is not yet accepting bookings.

Heard you were in Singapore for a transit recently.

Btw, I was informed by the property that a "soft opening" is scheduled to be in October, dates to be finalised.

There's also going to be a new Sheraton opening in October in the same general area of the Pacific coast: Sheraton Bijao Beach Resort.

Any idea what category either of these will be?

The Sheraton was actually on SPG.com for a little bit last week (with some totally stock images) but now gone.

This is on the Latin America site:

Not too helpful

Has anyone stayed at this property since it opened? Looking at a possible trip to Panama in February. Looks nice but wondering if any FTs have stayed there recently?
