Assuming you mean the Grosvenor House on Park Lane the cheapest option is the tube direct from the airport to Hyde Park Corner station. It is a 10-15 minute walk or short taxi ride from the station to the hotel. This route has no stairs and doesn't require a change of train but there are some escalators and a ramp up to street level so it is suitable if you have luggage you can easily handle without help.

For any route planning on public transport in the UK I recommend you use Transport Direct.

Here's the Scoop

I spend one or two weeks a month at Grosvenor House. First of all there is a tremendous group of people working there. Katrin in Customer Relations is ridiculously helpful. I have stayed at every Marriott in London and Grosvenor House is my favorite, with Grosvenor Square a close second - due mostly to the staff at either location.

Car service from LHR to Grosvenor House is ~65 GBP. You can arrange for car service through the concierge at GH and they will send a mid-sized Mercedes sedan. However, if you have a lot of luggage you should ask for a people carrier (UK term for a van).

For me, the most cost-efficient way to get there - without hopping on the Tube - is the Heathrow Express. 16.50 GBP one-way and 32GBP for a return ticket (return = round-trip).

It leaves 4 times an hour, and takes little more than 15 minutes to get to London Paddington. From Paddinton you join the Taxi queue and for 8 to 10 GBP, depending on traffic, you can take a Black Taxi to Grosvenor House. If you ask them to drop you at the Park Lane entrance, you save a pound. When you tip a Taxi driver, you should only round up to the nearest pound, or an extra pound if the tip equates to 50 pence or less.

So for two people, you are looking at 43GBP each-way. A taxi from the hotel will ring you up for 65-70, which is the same as the car service. The car service can be billed to your room. I have never taken the tube, but I am guessing you are looking at 75 minutes and 15+ stops to get to Hyde Park Corner. (Not a bad walk from there through the park, though)

Hope that Helps!

To Eurostar Station

Getting to St. Pancras International (Eurostar's new station) is not hard.

Black Taxi from the hotel will be 15-20 GBP, depending on traffic. Traffic is usually not great, unless you are catching one of the really early trains to Paris / Brussels.

You can also get yourself to the Oxford Circus station (walk through Grosvenor Sq and then down Oxford Street) and hop the tube to King's Cross / St. Pancras. (Tube will probably be 4GBP each.)

If you have the time, the walk is not too long and it takes you past a bunch of embassies, including the US embassy. If you are pressed for time, Taxi is more direct.

To add on to what todd_m says, I usually do the Heathrow Express (HEX)-cab combo.

However, last few times I've done the Heathrow Connect (HCon)-cab combo. HCon picks up at LHR at same place as the HEX & goes to Paddington. HCon runs 2x/hour & takes 25 minutes vs HEX 15. But - it's also less expensive - ie, 13.90GBP RT (can't remember 1-way, but probably 7GBP).

I do the train/cab combo regardless if I'm at Grosvenor House or Grosvenor Square. Price is basically the same for cab since the 2 properties are only about 3-4 short blocks apart. Like Todd, Grosvenor Hall is my favorite & agree re: staff.

Can't help you on the Eurostar, although it looks like they have you covered above.

Cheers.

Although this difference in full price between the Connect and HEX services is clear, there is nearly always an offer on somewhere to discount the HEX a little. For example currently on advance purchase Virgin Atlantic is offering a first class ticket for 5% less than a standard one (£30.40 return); ANA is offering a standard return for £27.52. Railcards get you discounts from both.

As already noted, HEX to Paddington and a taxi to GH is the most expedient way to get from LHR to the hotel at a decent price while car-hire offers direct service at a higher though relatively decent price. Check for discounts on HEX and purchase your ticket before boarding the train for best prices. The Tube is cheapest, but you get what you pay for in terms of the ride and time required to reach your destination ( and you would still need a taxi to GH with your luggage ).

Have a nice trip.

Do you buy the hex tickets in advance in the US or once you get to Hathrow. Also for Eurostar tickets is there any web site to find advacne purchase sale fare.

HEX tickets can be bought from a kiosk down near the platform. Just follow the signs when you get to the arrivals hall.

I always do the HEX + cab combo upon arrival in London. Occasionally HEX + Tube from Paddington if I'm traveling light. Last time I did Tube all the way was many years ago when there was no HEX.

There are kiosks at the Paddington end too: only buy the R/T if you are very certain that's also going to be your way back to LHR. You only save a pound or two vs. buying two one-ways.

I have never had a problem using any of my credit cards at the HEX kiosk, including my SPG Amex. Why do I mention this, you ask? You'll find some automated kiosks in Europe that are finicky about non-chipped credit cards.

You'll find HEX being heavily promoted in the airport just about as soon as you step off the plane. You'll be well-informed regarding where to buy tix, etc.

Just checked in at Grosvenor House and I am very disappointed. I'm usually a Hyatt/SPG person and I'm not a big fan of Marriott chains. This time GH proves it right again.

Booked at weekend rate GBP179.00 for King or Queen Non Smoking guaranteed.
Checked in today at 6pm:

-NO PORTER SERVICE at front door, I had to carry my luggage.
-Gave me a SINGLE BED ROOM which the bathroom itself is bigger than the bed area
-Cold water not working

Went downstairs to Front Desk and they said "we are sorry, we are full tonight and because you specified a nonsmoking room we thought it would be ok to give you a single bed." The best thing they can do is move me to a King room tomorrow, but without refund of price difference or MR miles as compensation for tonight.

This is absolutely ridiculous as I booked 3 weeks ago and they should know better with their vacancy rates.

My review: AVOID, stick to Hyatt/SPG.

You didn't say whether or not you're traveling alone, but I'm going to assume you are. 179 GBP is a pretty good rate for a major hotel in this part of London....a city where single-bedded rooms are not at all unusual in any class of hotel.

I'd also submit that booking three weeks in advance is probably later than most of these rooms were booked, particularly during "spring break" in North America.

It sounds to me like they have every intention to find a room type more to your liking for the second night of your stay.

Now....I'm also wondering if the room type was made clear and mutually agreed upon at the time of your booking. If you have written confirmation of another type of room, then by all means, I'd ask for compensation. If not, I wouldn't.

In my view, they gave you their best price, didn't anticipate your disappointment, and are trying to satisfy you.

Firstly I beg to differ from your opinions, but no flaming intended

Originally the room rate was GBP 199 but a weekend rate code bumped it to 179. It is specifically for King/Queen room and it is written on the reservation confirmation printout. I expect either a King/Queen or if its really full, then a bump to the next best thing available, maybe executive floor or a suite. This is my common experience with SPG & Hyatt regardless if I have status or not. (I have Marriott awards but no status).

But what you suggested is unacceptable as I paid for King/Queen and they stuffed me into this dingy room for one night but charged me in full. This is the sort of room you get on ultra discounted rates like Priceline. High season is not an excuse for bad inventory management. You cant give rainchecks on hotel rooms. I don't know what you think but this is certainly not the treatment I received from other chains.

Originally the room rate was GBP 199 but a weekend rate code bumped it to 179. It is specifically for King/Queen room and it is written on the reservation confirmation printout.
