The Club Lounge is open on weekends and has wifi Internet available. Wifi is available complimentary for all guests in all public areas. Juice and soda Is available all day but no self service. Lounge is always manned with 2-3 staff and during cocktail hour about 6 staff. Canapé selection changes every night and each night they bring in a chef to serve up one specialty hot dish. Last night they had a whole deep fried cod that the chef was serving up. There is no wifi in any of the rooms in the west wing and in the east wing the in room wifi is only available on the top three floors which are the new renovated life style rooms.
For breakfast they also give you the option of dining in one of the hotel restaurants. You will still need to sign a slip with breakfast charges but I was told by the club lounge staff that the charges will be removed.
Hotel is a little tired and definitely needs a refresh. Every 15 min or so while I'm watching tv in my room the lights and tv turn off and reset back to the welcome channel. It seems it's a fuse resetting or something.

Some feedback:
Club Lounge service is good but everywhere else service is lacking.
Service at the main reception area is terrible. My 2nd day I asked about wifi in the rooms and the girl at reception was to busy doing something else and didn't even look up at me. She blew me off by saying there is wifi in the room (there is not). I asked why I couldn't connect, she found out I was in a club floor room so she told me to go speak to the club lounge staff, I was dismissed.

Gym is manned by a front desk and you must bring your special card which is provided at checkin (not your key) to enter. They hand you a towel as you enter but make sure you hand it back to the desk when leaving. I made the mistake of leaving it in the change room and I was told abruptly upon leaving that I must go back and get my towel and give it to him.

I'm usually very easily pleased but I'm a little shocked at some of the staffs attitude/service skills.

Do yourself a favor and stay at the JW.

Happy to answer any other questions.

Looks like they did not change since 4 years ago, which was the reason I switched to JW ever since. And IMO JW's location is much better.

JW was not that good from the beginning, but after a few complaints, it does better now. In a few occassions, the MD even escorted me to the room. Maybe my guest profile is marked "heavy complainer".

I stayed at the JW for Christmas weekend last year. The hotel was fully booked on Christmas Eve but they were able to find me a room. As a Gold, I was given concierge access and the service was top notch. Pretty good spread of food at the lounge.

Renaissance's location makes it easier to use the local monorail & train station while JW's location is a 5-minute walk (and it's now VERY hot in KL) to the nearest monorail station.
That being said, I prefer the JW's lounge and access to the Golden Triangle/Bintang Walk/Starhill shopping & restaurants....... (and we'll be returning to the JW in November)

KL's outter CBD is very easy to get to using KLIA-Central Station Express

So it sounds like the JW is the best bet in terms of location?

Just got back from JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur. The location is perfect, close to shopping malls and restaurant/street food area. Just written a detailed review on TA, have a look if someone needs some information=)

I stayed at the KL JW more than 50 nights in 2010/11. Agree with everything said here - great lounge (esp the staff) and nice location. That said I will be trying out the new GH the next time I go back (as Hyatt is my primary choice for hotels).

Could you provide a link to your detailed review, or just cut/paste it in this thread so others will know what you reported? Thx!

Cheers.

Trip Report at JW Marriott KL

Hi guys, sorry for being late in writing this trip report, I was kinda busy last few weeks. I have just completed one night stay at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur using Megabonus free night cert.

About one week before our date of arrival, I emailed the hotel to ask for platinum complimentary room upgrade and perhaps 'something' special for my girlfriend's birthday. Got a reply almost immediately saying that they would take note about it. I didn't expect much actually as it's booked using free cert. They did ask for my girlfriend's name though. Besides we mentioned in our concierge email that we would arrive at 10am.

Check-in process :

We arrived at the hotel exactly at 10am. Our arrival was expected, a nice young gentleman (Mr. Jeoffery) was there waiting for us actually according to what he said (luckily we were punctual). He greeted my girlfriend and wished her happy birthday (she looked surprise and shy, ha). A lift attender is (and always) doing his job at the lift lobby. Mr. J led our way to our room which has been upgraded to a junior suite!!! However, we were stuck in the lift for about 10 minutes, zzz. Mr. J did his job well when we were stuck in the lift, totally professional. He brought us around our suite and briefed us about the platinum benefits. That was the best check-in process that I have experienced so far. However, he forgot to give us the platinum arrival gift card, I didn't utilize the platinum guarantee though as Mr. J doesn't deserve a complaint like that.

Staff service :

I would give them 11 out of 10. GM called to our room to apologize for the lift problem and wished my girlfriend happy birthday, afterwards, a huge set of chocolate with a hand-written card written by the GM was brought to our room as 'token of apology'. A plate of fruits and several boxes of chocolates were already there when we checked-in, my girlfriend took a box out with us when we go shopping, and they actually 'refilled' the missing box of chocolate when we got back 3hours later(o.O) Mr. J called our room saying that they have arranged 'something' special for my gf birthday and asked whether we would like to have wine or champagne. At 5pm, when we got back to our room, a 1kg chocolate cake, a bottle of champagne, macaron, chocolates, strawberries etc was already there (my girlfriend looked surprise and wonder how much would it cost, haha). We were allowed to invite one of my gf's aunt staying in KL to help us finish the cakes etc.

Room (Junior suite) :

The separate living area is not so spacious but cozy enough to accommodate 4 adults I guess. The decoration is stylish and modern. King-sized bed is perfectly comfortable. Bathroom was huge enough with a bathtub, a separate shower area and a separate toilet. A whole container of bath salt deserves a remark. A portable internet modem was provided and we were told that we can bring that modem out of the hotel, great isn't it!!!

Lounge :

Very high-class compared to the lounge in other Marriott hotels. Great view, great service. Food served during the cocktail hour has high quality but low quantity (better than the other way round isn't it?) I asked for some special non-alcoholic cocktail and the staff were nice enough to make something 'new' for us. She got back after a while to ask for our feedback, it's kinda too sweet for me, she immediately brought another glass of drink for me with different ingredients which is not so sweet=) I asked for a lemon from the lounge staff at night for our vodka, and she reopen the kitchen to bring us one=) Cheers!!!

Breakfast :

Free for gold/platinum member 7days a week. You can choose to have it in the lounge or the restaurant. We went for the restaurant breakfast as recommended by Mr. J=) That was the best hotel breakfast buffet which I have ever had so far at any marriott/non-marriott hotels across Asia and Europe. A wide variety of food, consisting of Western, Malay (local), Chinese and Indian cuisine. The food is excellent both in terms of quality and quantity. Do try some of the local food, which we, the Malaysian love!!! Besides, the settings of the restaurant deserves a remark, cozy and high-class=)

Location :

Absolutely perfect for both business and leisure purpose. It's located right the middle of shopping area with plenty of nice restaurants around. Try the local food at Jalan Alor which is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, you won't regret=) The nearest LRT station is about 5 minutes walk away and please take the LRT when you are in KL, you might be stuck in super heavy traffic jam if you take the taxi, it's beyond your imagination. Just take care of your belongings well when you are taking the LRT.

Checking-out process :

It took 1 minute=)

Overall 12 out of 10=)

Public security tips when you are in KL :

Recently there are a lot of teenagers/youngsters wandering around the shopping area in Kuala Lumpur, especially somewhere near to the LRT station. Remember, just ignore them!!! They would approach you with some 'forms' in hand, asking for your signature (for charity purpose they said, ya right), they will force you to give them money after you have signed it. It's allover our local newspaper here, and they have recently turned their target to foreigners. Some of them speak understandable English, but please, just pretend as if you couldn't hear them.

Hope it helps some other FTers=)

Regards,

Dolphinyong=)

and since you're in the Bintang Walk area you have Starhill Gallery right in front of you for shopping/restaurants
only downside of using the LRT recommended below is the train cabins are kinda small in case you're travelling with alot of baggage and if you're flying in, you have to first take the Airport Express to Central Station then go out the back door (not towards the Hilton/Meridien) and now go around the ongoing construction to get to the LRT to go to the JW Bukit Bintang Station (but its the only station in the immediate area).........

Agree that the LRT cabin is kinda small, and having luggage with you might be a problem. However, if you are entering this area around 8am or from 6pm to 9pm, I would still recommend you to take the LRT instead of taking a cab because of the unimaginable traffic jam around these peak hours. You might get stuck in the traffic for one hour or even more, seriously, no joke.

regarding baggage and the LRT, I don't recall if there was a lift from the street up to the platform, but I do recall that if you're heading back to Central Station to catch the KLIA you need to cross from 1 platform to the other platform using a "bridge" and there's no lift or other to help one carry their bags up and over...........

and, since I live in Bangkok, which has some of the worst traffic in the world, I would 2nd Dolphins comments about using the LRT to avoid the traffic, if practical........

thanks for the great report. Wife and I going for 3 nights in January.
Can you recommend local areas (preferably walking distance) for good street or casual food? We like to eat where the locals eat.

thanks!
