Marriott Pleasanton, CA [Master Thread]

Now open for business, it is a former Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn. I cannot imagine true Marriott fans giving this place a high rating, but it looks good to me @ $45 per weeknight thru PL.

The type of clientele it attracted when it was a Crowne Plaza was often a bit less than desireable. At $45 per night for the Bay Area, I'm afraid that might be the same case even as a Marriott.

Oh no... And I've already made a reservation there for an end of the month trip. At least, all rooms have 32" Flat Screen T.V.'s.

Calling it a "Silcon Valley" hotel is a bit of a stretch as well. Unless the name Silcon Valley has come to mean any city within a 2 hour drive of SFO, it'd take a couple hours commute in the morning to get to Silcon Valley.

At $45/night, I wouldn't mind giving this place a try. Where did you find that rate, hedoman? I checked PL published rates but the hotel isn't even listed in there. Did you roll the dice and ended up with Marriott Pleasanton for a $45 bid?

hedoman Apr 10, 2008 1:51 pm

On March 29, bid 3 stars @ $47 and Pleasanton Plaza appeared as booked hotel. Called the hotel, and they said it was soon to be Marriott. Returned to Priceline and booked eight multiple night midweek stays all at $45./night.
Average cost $53./night all in.

Just completed first stay so here is a mini-review. Think Holiday Inn rooms with new Marriott style furnishings, including sink and bathroom fixtures. The electrical outlets, and its covers are leftover Holiday Inn. Website rates....no way. Under $70 is good value for midweek. Hard to believe Marriott has its name on building.

Hedoman, Do they have a c-lounge?

avpman Jun 9, 2008 10:17 pm

Yes they do... just spent 3 weeks there, and it is not the nicest Marriott I have been to, but it is newly renovated. i wouldn't get excited about the lounge though as the evening receptions have 1 hot item and cheese, and breakfast consisted of eggs and bacon every day that I went up there. Given the price gap between this location and San Ramon though, it was worth it, and they gave 1000 bonus points for booking online.

Just spent a couple of nights at this property and want to say that most of the comments are right on. Mine was not a Priceline stay, but my corporate discount was not significantly lower than the $179 corporate/rack rate quoted on the Marriott website. The rack rate is _much_ lower than any nearby FS Marriott property.

The property has been redecorated and seems fine and up to Marriott standards. I was upgraded to a "Concierge Level" room (I say in quotes because the lounge was on a different floor) which had the LCD TV but no HD programming.

The CL was fine in the morning with a good (bacon and eggs) breakfast. In the evening however, I found it totally bizzare that they took the bar down at 7:30 () even though they are open until 10:00. And the "dessert" serving consisted of a plate of a dozen or so cookies (quickly consumed).

The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, but the impression I got from the rest of the staff was that they really didn't like their jobs and always seemed to be fishing for tips.

I think this hotel needs an infusion of good management to really bring it up to Marriott standards.

I'm guessing No - but can anybody tell me if the CL is open on weekends?

OK - is that a "No, I can't tell you" or a "No, it's not open"? :D

Sorry. "No, it's not open."

If you saw my earlier post, be aware that they take the bar in the CL down at 7:30 PM. Good breakfast, though.

Thanks for the response! Like I said, I pretty much knew the answer :)

Currently staying here and most of the comments are spot on. Upgraded to a room on the concierge floor but not the same floor as the lounge itself. New Marriott decoration, comfortable bed, but definitely has the feel of being a formerly cheap property (reminds me of the Fullerton Marriott). Evening lounge offering was pretty poor but the attendant very friendly. Front desk/AYS/RS/HK staff all friendly. Rooms are poorly insulated and sound easily comes in from both the hallway and outside. It seems that this area still attracts a rather low class clientele as I was woken up twice in two hours once by a police loudspeaker directing someone to move out of the lane of traffic and then again by someone in the parking lot next door laying rubber :td:.
