Bummer, was thinking about redeeming here for a 5 night stay in April. Only 1 day in April is unavailable on points and figures it's during my 5 night stay. Unreal.

There wasn't an extra person fee in our initial reservation though, just a 200 yen tax per person for each night. Now, there is a service fee of 7,000 per person per night for our reservation.
To be frank, we understand hotels can charge the fee whenever they see fit. We are just surprised that these can be added afterwards without us knowing. I don't like the possibility of checking our reservation the day before our stay to find out we have to pay a lot more than expected.

If you have the original confirmation I would contest it should they impose a fee after the fact.

I agree. I also think this may be some kind of a systems issue similar to the "service charge". For example, if you try to make a cash reservations with just 1 person you still get 7,000 "extra person" charge.

In any case, an award reservation should not have any additional charges other than the taxes (which do increase slightly per person)

Has anyone had success trying to upgrade a points reservation here by paying a cash supplement? I know it's not formally offered on the website, just wondering if anyone was able to contact the hotel negotiate a paid upgrade to a points reservation.

Greetings. Many months ago I made a cash reservation for two people at RC Tokyo. Last week I noticed on line that the service charge had increased dramatically, room rate stayed as per original reservation. A few days later, the service charge had changed slightly, still very high and noted it was for extra person in room. I emailed the hotel and received a prompt, courteous and
precise reply indicating the terms of the original reservation would certainly apply, also that there was a systematic error they were hoping to fix as soon as possible.
I suppose the result might be expected from a hotel with such a stellar reputation for service, but I was gratified even so. I hope my experience helps to allay the concerns of some of the above posters re service charges. Happy travels.

I inquired about upgrading to club level last September (right after the SPG merger), and was told that I could do so by paying the difference between Deluxe room and Club Deluxe room, which for our dates was 30,000 JPY per night. Not sure if the policy has changed or not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

The extra person fee seems to be removed now. And agree that all correspondences with the hotel has been nothing but prompt and courteous.

I sent an initial email to the concierge regarding some restaurant bookings at the email listed on their webpage HERE, which was [email protected] but now I see on other sites (TA for example) that people are contacting [email protected], is this something that has just changed post-merger? I was just going to wait a few days before forwarding my email if I don't hear anything to the other address since I'm not in a hurry but I was just wondering if there was some other information I was missing.

I would get in touch right away for the reservations. No sense in waiting.

I've stayed at RC Tokyo a few times but my upcoming stay will be the first time in a Club room. Two questions about Club Level privileges at RC Tokyo:

1. They say check-in for Club Level is in the lounge instead of the normal reception? Since the club floor requires a key card, do you have to wait in line for regular reception and then they tell you to go to another floor? If so, doesn't that just take strictly longer than checking in normally?
2. Club level includes breakfast. Can that breakfast be taken in the room, or just in the club?

Thanks.

What's the deal with platinum members and the spa/gym at the RC Tokyo?

I usually stay at the Prince Gallery, where the gym and onsen is free for platinum members.

The deal is like many RC's, we get no benefits as Plat/Titanium.

No breakfast, no club access, no club room upgrades, etc. Don't even get to suites.

I always prefer StR and Luxury Collection properties.

1. A bellman or duty manager should escort you there.

2. Club only for breakfast.

Has anyone been able to upgrade to club level with points recently? Last time I checked, they were only willing to do it for JPY 30,000 per night.

I just completed a 5 night points stay on two rooms at the beginning of the month and was able to upgrade both rooms to the club level for JPY 20,000 per night. They would only confirm 3 of the 5 nights in advance of the stay as the last two nights were a Fri/Sat and apparently they "sell out" the club some weekends. We were able to get the Fri/Sat nights confirmed at check-in. I was told by my ambassador that they no longer offer point upgrades to club level.
