Lagunamar is far superior for children and families. But you will get zero titanium benefits. It is truly one or the other. Is the free breakfast worth an inferior pool and small rooms?

In the last several posts I have already commented how dissatisfied with the Westin I was at the lack of titanium / platinum benefits for guests... no breakfast, late checkouts or even bottled water in the room... but should you stay here?
Well what I would say is that the breakfast is actually very good overall and quite reasonable at $23 a person with a huge spread from which to choose from.
The pool areas too are vast and there is good direct access to the beach and nearby sea with plenty of seating around the pools.
The room itself was also a good size and colourfully decorated for a one bedroom villa suite. It wasn’t much more to pay for this room than a regular bedroom so I figured I would upgrade myself since SNAs aren’t honoured here.
I was frustrated at the length of time checkin took at almost 25 minutes waiting time before I was processed (extremely slowly).
The lack of any Bonvoy benefits is also a surprise and disappointment considering you only need to scroll up a few posts to see that breakfast (at the very least) was being offered. But the lack of even bottled water is pretty pathetic and they even tried to impose an insane checkout time of 10am! I managed to agree on midday.
I wouldn’t NOT recommend staying here but as long as you arrive knowing what you are NOT receiving then you will be fine.
One positive is the superb location of the hotel to Las Islas shopping mall which is full of shops, bars and restaurants right across the street. For this alone, it might make the location worthwhile as there is plenty to see and do including some great restaurants and the Cancun aquarium. But truly, apart from the Westin bed, the hotel might as well have been from a completely different chain altogether.
It also took a full week for my points to post too!

The review is spot on. But t's a timeshare not a hotel. The property is not set up to provide those perks because the timeshare owners don't receive them. In fact timeshare owners only get one cleaning per week, even worse than non-owners! And they need time to clean the rooms - the vast majority of people checkout on Saturdays and they don't have the staff to allow for staggered checkouts.
If you want elite status perks there are quite a few Marriott chain hotel properties in Cancun.

...and that’s fine - but at least make it clear in the website about limited participation in the Bonvoy program and that it’s a timeshare. It’s not clear at all.

Any recent reports or visits here? I got a timeshare promotional deal in 2019 and it was extended... I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go in Dec 2020 or if I should push it even further back.

it depends what you want. Beaches and pools should be normal ops but with more spacing.

You'll see quite a few recent reports over at TUG.com. Also it appears people are very pleased with the way the resort is handling the Covid issue.

I’ve been to several Marriott properties in Mexico and was very impressed with how they were taking social distancing measures while providing top notch service *cough...cough* unlike their fellow North American counterparts across the border wall.

Thanks! This is what I was wondering about... mostly how people feel about the COVID / social distancing measures, and how well elite benefits and such are being honored. That said, I don't expect much elite benefits at a timeshare property (if any).

Stay Report - 11/14 to 11/16
Location: The hotel is located right in the center of the Cancun Hotel Zone on a beautiful stretch of beach between the Live Aqua and Park Royal Hotels. As a bonus it's across from the upscale Fashion Harbour Mall which has a number of restaurants and stores. It's an easy 20 minute drive to the airport and within 10 minutes of the hotel are some great restaurants.
Hotel: The hotel is part of a sprawling property consisting of 14 different buildings with rooms and another few for the rest of the amenities. The complex is roughly divided into two parts, the west part which has the main pools, pool bar, beach access and the east wing which has smaller pools. The east wing is currently closed. As of right now there is only a sports bar and the pool bar open for dining. Valet parking is also shut down though annoyingly the app didn't mention this. The lack of valet definitely means some long walks from your car to your room. The hotel's fitness center is open as is a small store in the lower lobby.
Check In: The check in agents were very nice about me being Titanium and were very helpful explaining how the hotel worked. I got 1,000 points as a welcome amenity but as this is a timeshare, no breakfast benefit. The concierge did provide us with a free Westin tote bag though.
Room: I'd paid for an ocean front villa and it was a really nice room. Huge kitchen with great fixtures, washer dryer (a big plus), great bathroom with a whirlpool tub, separate shower and two sinks, comfortable bed and a balcony. Wifi worked well and there were plenty of outlets. My view was somewhat disappointing especially as the check in agent claimed he was "upgrading" me to a great view. Still, excellent room.
Dining: We had drinks and breakfast at the pool bar. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for a resort (approximately $9 per mixed drink, $15 for breakfast) and the food was pretty good. Service was also excellent. The lunch and dinner menus are pretty limited though I didn't check out the sports bar.
Resort: The beach and pools are lovely. No issues getting chairs, umbrellas or towels either.
Overall a very pleasant stay at a nice resort. I'd gladly come back.

Does anyone have an appropriate email address for this property? I'd like to book a stay using a combination of points and award certificates and would like a paper trail of whether an upgrade from a studio to a 1 bedroom villa is possible and at what cost. Thanks!

Great review by CMK. I will post an update soon as we are due to arrive January 1. I expect little has changed except for resumption of services. I like this property better than the Westin hotel which felt more crowded at the pool, and the Lagunamar is short walking distance from 2 malls and many other restaurants (all price points) and shops, including Starbucks which I visit daily. The same cannot be said for the hotel.
