I need to talk to the GM about that...
Thanks for that: I just noticed a strange $17 charge on my AMEX, and the GM hasn't responded about my missing amenity yet either...

There was no coffee maker in my room on the 20th floor of the W New Orleans.

Now that I think about it, I don't remember one in my room either; I don't drink coffee.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I have reservations at both hotels, so I'll keep them both and decide much, much later.

I'm pretty much leaning to the FQ one though (and I'll probably take a walk to Poydras to see how that hotel looks too).

Thanks!

I'm doing the FlyinHawaiian grand tour this week. I'll update his report. I'll be up until 10 pm, so we'll see how my experiences differ.

Sheraton, W Poydras, W FQ and then the 4P at the airport (don't ask).

I stayed at the W on Chartres recently and booked the carriage style room off of the pool. It had a jacuzzi in the courtyard which I didn't use.
This hotel can be quite noisy (street sounds) but if in N.O......what the heck are you there for anyway!

recent 2 night stay using Cash & Points:

No suite upgrade, but no problem with late check-out or staff not knowing what a Platinum Amenity is. ^

Lobby is great, and Jason our bartender entertained my group for many hours with excellent drinks and great conversation. I found no "attitude" anywhere in this property.

Deluxe room was well appointed, Bliss products refreshed as needed, only gripe is that the safe does not hold a laptop.

Having also stayed at W FQ I have to echo the comments that there are two very different W's and one should pick accordingly based on their needs/desires.

It's been several years since we stayed at W Poydras; that time it was courtesy of Harrah's, so we had a basic standard room. The person in the room next to us had a very large party all. night. long. We might as well have been at that party, because we didn't get a wink of sleep; the walls must have been tissue paper thin. We have been very unwilling to take that risk again.

Walls are like tissue paper, but we were given a very lovely two room suite for four nights. I believe its a wonderful suite or some such. TH thought it was really dark, but the sunrises over river were lovely.

I was lucky enough to stay at the W New Orleans on Poydras and left with a great impression of the place. It's one of the trendiest Ws in the system IMO. Along with W SF and W Chicago-Lakeshore, this is one of my fave hotels in the world.

Comprehensive review of the W Poydras with pics here.

I also walked past the W French Quarter and took a few photos.

Thumbs down Disappointment!

I have had two stays at the W New Orleans on Poydras over the last couple months and am thoroughly disappointed. In October I had reserved two rooms for a Saturday night stay. It was for my sister's bachelorette party (a bunch of civilized 30's women, not raucous teens) and called ahead and asked if there was anyway that we could have one room upgraded to a suite due to my Platinum status. After lots of clicking and waiting on the phone someone came on and reluctantly said that one would be upgraded.

Showed up that evening at the front desk and they were very rude and insinuated that I must be making it up. We were assiged two rooms on different floors. I am not upset that I wasn't assigned the suite but I was upset that I was told on the telephone that I was but then upon check in wasn't. Tried asking for a manager, but was told none was available in the evening.

We went out for the evening and lost the key to one of the rooms. Went to the front desk to ask for a new key. Was given another story about how for security purposes no keys are dispensed at that hour of the evening and had to be escorted by security to the room. Security had to open the door for us. I felt like a criminal being locked up for the evening.

I spoke with Angela Thompson the following Monday and expressed disappointment in how the whole situation was handled. She agreed it was handled poorly and refunded one room. I also mentioned that several wedding guests would be staying at the hotel and that the bride and groom would be staying there as well for the wedding night.

As requested I forwarded to her the confirmation for the bride and groom and she assured me that everything would run much more smoothly this time. The reservation was in my name with my sister as the secondary so I could go and check them into the room that afternoon and drop off some goodies for the newlyweds.

Took time away from wedding mania to drive downtown and check them into the hotel. They had no record of me speaking to Angela Thompson and they were assigned a standard double bed room. After speaking with the front desk manager I managed to get them into a more suitable room. I presented my credit card and asked for the room key so I could drop off the goodies I had brought for them (basket of snacks, waters, cokes and champagne.)

Was told I couldn't have the key since the room wouldn't be ready for at least an hour. Shane the front desk manager took possesion of the goodies and assured me they would be delivered and all the newlyweds would have to do is present ID to get the room key.

It was after midnight when they finally got there. Sis called to tell me they made her leave a credit card and then I asked if she is enjoying the goodies. The goodies were never delivered. I called down to the front desk and asked about it and the only resolution I was given is that I could use my credit card and send something up from in room dininig?!?!

The basket I made never made it to them in the two days they spent there. There credit card was charged which really aggravated me since the weekend was supposed to be a gift. Everyone who I have come in contact with in recent months has been unhelpful and not very nice.

My new comment is to STAY AWAY till management changes!

Rachel, shame on them. What a disappointment, when you had done everything possible to give them a memorable wedding gift. I would be enraged if this happened to a family member for whom I was attempting the same.

Did the hotel ever find your wedding basket? Did they apologize in a substantive way?
