I guess you were expecting more of a shi-shi-la-la lounge?

I'm not sure what do you mean, but I expect a little decency to be enforced.
It is also not unusual to expect some decent hot food and, half-decent drinks in a lounge in Asia.

None of that is available @ Westin SG.

I have stayed at the Westin once and while the hard product is solid, I much prefer the location of the St. Regis. It's nice to be able to walk out of the hotel and stroll down Orchard or take a nice walk through the botanical gardens (which is about a 15 minute walk away). I haven't experienced any short comings from any of the staff.

Yes, St.Regis is good and certainly way above other SG SPG properties.
Service-wise there are no real shortcomings, it's just that most of the staff are quite full of themselves since they think that they work at best hotel @ SG :D . Not a big deal, just a bit unusual in Asia.

Still, it's a no-brainier if SPG is a must

IMO you're being very unfair. I've always had decent food, hot and cold, and half-decent drinks in the Westin lounge in Singapore.

I seen people in beachwear and underwear. Plus a group of gentleman in hotel robes worn commando and hotel slippers.

Glad that you liked the lounge, you can certainly indulge in this place if you are into above dressing habits and like cheap wine and stale cheese.

My experience was quite the reverse of yours.
Cheese wasn't stale.Wines are better quality than most SPG lounges.Good selection of food with even an egg station at brekkie. And saw no one in beachwear, underwear or hotel robes in the lounge.
Guess it just wasn't your day.

I've stayed at both properties many times in 2014 and just a few weeks ago at the Westin again. I like them both and I bounce from one to the other, because I can't decide which is better. They are just different.

The Westin has a cool bar on the 33rd floor and I like walking to the Mall and Casino sometimes. But the St. Regis is much closer to Orchard road and the gardens as someone pointed out above. The St. Regis is also closer to my work/customers. However, when I convince someone to come to me, the environment at the Westin is much easier for doing business (restaurant or lobby or boardroom).

YMMV.

Thanks every one!
It seems Westin and StR got their votes respectively.
Given price parity and location is not big of a concern, for a first timer, which one you guys think is better ? :)

St. Regis!

Actually, if location is not a factor, I would choose W Sentosa Cove (far away in Sentosa), followed by StR then Westin and finally Sheraton.

Hi everyone - My wife and I are staying in Singapore for 3 days to kick off a 15 day vacation for our 10 year anniversary. We're currently booked in the W, but I am wondering if it's too out of the way. I'd love for us to be able to walk around and explore the city (especially food). Given that, which SPG property would you choose?

Thanks!

If you think there are no service shortcomings at the St regis i suggest you read the mater therad here and trip advisor.

I have never had as bad service as I had in two visits there. I dont doubt it can be good, many good reviews, but it can be truely awful, so why take the risk.

In my extensive experience service is not a Singapore thing, but at StR prices it should be 100% every time. It simply is not.

If service is your number 1 priority then ditch all SPG hotels in the city. Go to Ritz - you have a much higher chance on getting great service there.

1st world problems isn't it? SPG hotel services in Singapore are actually not that bad, not great, but fairly ok.

As previously commented, W is great, however it is really out of the way as it is in Sentosa Island. As which of the remaining 3 properties suits you best, the discussion in this thread should give you a pretty good insight.

It's a long and pretty expensive taxi ride to and from things of interest in Singapore unless you plan to visit the casino or other Sentosa "attractions."

I'm going to assume 3 days = 2 nights ? It really depends on the type of food you're looking for ... hawker style, high end service, gastro etc . It isn't too difficult or expensive to get to the city from Sentosa, even with public transport ... just be sure to get back before mid-night ! :P

Sentosa is fine for a relaxing 2-3 nights. There's actually quite alot to do on the island and the various clubs (so far have never been denied entering/eating at any, despite being a non-member). do serve decent food, at a slight premium.

Personally, if you have been to Singapore before then I would get some duty free on the way in and start the vacation off relaxing

This will be 3 nights. It's our first time in Singapore we're heading to Bangkok for 2 nights and then a week on Koh Sumai relaxing so looking for more of an active visit in Singpore. As far as food, looking to experience it all, but with more of a focus on street food and local cuisine.

Right now, we're leaning towards the St Regis, but open to any of the 3 SPG properties in a good location.
