Any comments on W in Washington. Are upgrades available or the lounge access for specific rooms?

Stayed at the W Washington a few weeks ago and did not like it all. I didn't receive much of an upgrade (just higher floor). The rooms are TINY. Felt like a dorm room. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything in the room next to me. The elevators are crowded with people going up to the rooftop. The rooftop is neat, but the drinks are terrible and overpriced.

There is no lounge.

Take your money somewhere else. The StR Washington is much nicer for often a similar price point.

In D.C., i had stayed at St. Regis, W as SPG platinum and Park Hyatt as Hyatt Diamond.

The PH was way better than all of SPG hotels.

If i had to stick with SPG, SR is definitely my go-to hotel.

Thanks. Staying on points. SR is more points I don't have. (amended : it was when I booked it, now it seems to be the same, will they credit me with the current value if I was to change hotels?) Is it worth paying and points? Location is good. I also have BW points near-by but its probably a different category.

Hotels near the metro in the DC area

Kind of an odd question, but...

Which SPG hotels are within walking distance of a metro station, and outside of DC proper?

i.e., Alexandria, etc.

Westin Crystal City is essentially at the Crystal City metro station.

Take a look at "Mapview" tab in the res page (after you select the dates of course.) It will assist you in identifying possible hotels for the area and then check the individual hotel page for transportation options. I know the ones out by IAD had shuttles, generally, to airport and Metro, but that's a ways out of town.

It's right across the street. The hotel also operates a free shuttle bus service to DCA.

Was that a (compri) in the past?

I remember staying at one of those in the late 80's, and it was walking distance to the metro, but that brand is long gone.

Previously it was a Sheraton, not sure what was it before that. Here's some photos from my recent stay.

Le Meridien Arlington is a 3 minute walk from the Rosslyn Metro, and a good deal on points as a Cat 4.

Sheraton Silver Springs is about 3 or 4 blocks from the Red Line.

The public transit feature of Google Maps will add a lot of specificity to hotel guidelines, too.

As far as walkable to a Metro station (not including hotels in DC itself):

Sheraton Suites Alexandria (Braddock Road - Yellow and Blue)
Westin Crystal City (Crystal City - Yellow and Blue)
LeMeridien Arlington (Rosslyn - Blue, Orange, Silver)
Westin Arlington (Ballston - Orange, Silver)
Sheraton Silver Spring (Silver Spring - Red)
Sheraton Tysons (Spring Hill Metro - Silver)

Hotels that Offer a Free Shuttle to the nearest Metro:

Sheraton and Westin Reston (Wiehle-Reston East -Silver)
Sheraton Pentagon City (Pentagon City -Blue and Yellow)

This list may not be complete - these are just the ones I've stayed at on staycations/after evenings out.

For those of you thinking about using Metro, be aware that Metro is in the middle of a major repair effort, with numerous station closings/single tracking that change week to week. Here is the approximate schedule (but things can happen):
