Irritated me every time I pulled out my nearly-worn-out SPG card to think Marriott now runs their program. Just got done with the $100K spend bonus and have already sock drawered it - will surely cancel unless another spend promo hits. They really need to go back to 3x earning on everyday spend, or at the very least offer spend bonuses on gas, grocery and drug to make it worth carrying. Needs to at least match Hilton Ascend which gets 6x on g,g and d. Hilton points are worth around 0.4cpp and I value Marriott about 0.6-0.7cpp, so Marriott needs to offer ~3-4x on g,g and d to get any spend from me going forward. If anyone is putting any spend on this dumb card without a bonus offer, they need their noodle examined.

The exact same thing happened to me, but at a different property. I only earned 1x SPG points. American Express issued me a courtesy 2x Marriott points after a half dozen exchanges over several months, but that means they still owe me another 2x Marriott points. (2x SPG points = 6x Marriott points)

My Canadian SPG Amex anniversary date is May 4, and I should be getting yearly 'Cat 5 free night certificate', but it is already July and still nothing (??) Is waiting 8-10 weeks typical? Where would I see this when it posts, under 'overview' of my marriott.com account? This is new this year for the Canadian spg/marriott amex.

Just wondering if anybody here still sees any reason to put any spend on SPG/Bonvoy Amex card? I am about to cancel mine, but just wanted to check the general sentiment.

Unless you signed up for the 3x Marriott Points for $25,000 spend, there isn't a lot of reason to use the card. I put some spend on the Bonvoy Brilliant card (restaurant and Marriott spend), but not a lot.

However if Amex declines to renew this promo then I expect we will cancel the card as 2 points/$1 spend is simply not competitive with the alternatives including 2% cashback card (I'd take $900 cash over 90k Marriott points any day)

There isn't, but why would you cancel it? It's pretty easy to book a free night worth well over the annual card fee.

Since the merger, no new SPG American Express cards will be issued. The new Marriott Bonvoy American Express card discussion forum is AmEx Bonvoy Brilliant Luxury Card [General Discussion Thread]
