They should have posted at the end of the qualifying statement period. If you didn't get them, I'd submit a message to them online inquiring.

I didn't check all of them but here are some of the "dead" links:

YMMV, but airmilesmart.com was a great web site to book travel expenses, but lately (in the last six months anyway), it's been hard to have transactions post and to claim the 500 *wood points. Mr. honu needed at least a couple of emails to redeem the last batch. Too bad, because in the past they were among the most reliable of all shopping portals (IME).

I appreciate any help.

I'm enrolled in the platinum challenge (stay 15 nights in 90 days). I also opened up a SPG Amex card, which automatically provides 5 days credit. Does this reduce the number of days needed from 15 to 10?

Also, I'm staying at a SPG hotel for 70+ consecutive days, and I'm required to pay every two weeks. Will I need to check out prior to appealing for the platinum status, or will it be extended to me without having to worry about checking out after 10/15 days?

Thanks guys/girls.

The AMEX website states the card provides 5 nights credit. Does anyone know how many stays it covers?

Two, I think. I have four stays worth of credit (six more to maintain Gold) and I have the personal and business cards. For reference, I have ten nights of credit.

If I can refer you . . .

SPG Gold w/ $30K Spend

I've read in here that you can achieve SPG Gold with $30K in annual spend. As those posts were a bit old (and credit card T&C's change fast!), can someone please confirm whether that is in fact still the case?

If that is still the case, does the Gold status become effective shortly thereafter, or do you have to wait until the following year?

Scroll down to: Reach the next level of SPG elite status faster; bullet point #2; click on 16 and it says:

"If during any calendar year, Eligible Spending on your Card account is $30,000 or more, you (the Basic Cardmember) will be enrolled for at least twelve months in the Gold Preferred level of the Starwood Preferred Guest® loyalty program (unless you are already enrolled in an equivalent or higher level). Starwood associates excluded. Please allow 12-16 weeks after your Eligible Spending equals or exceeds such amount for the applicable year for enrollment to become effective."

You'll see a special rewards notation in your SPG account activity history after the close of the relevant billing Amex cycle. The line looks like this, with my highlighting:

+[latest spend total] OPTIMAGLDUPGRD SPG AX BASE SPEND - CONSUMER (date)

However, SPG may take a few weeks to process the update to your account status; you can call and have them do it manually instead.

That said, there's not much benefit to being SPG Gold, other than the extra point/dollar earned on stays. As an SPG Amex cardholder & thus Preferred Plus, you already get the primary benefits: 4 pm checkout and room upgrades (officially to a better room in the same category, but many properties routinely upgrade to a higher category).

New poster, long time lurker here (Hi FTers!). Has anyone had trouble getting their 2 stay/5 night credit posted in their first year? I contacted AMEX via web/email and two reps so far have claimed the 2+5 is only good in your first and subsequent renewal year(s)... not in the initial year.

This seems to directly contradict the language on the AMEX site for the application: Upon opening your Card Account and, by February 15th of each subsequent calendar year it is open, you will receive from Starwood credit for 2 stays towards your Starwood Preferred Guest elite status and credit for 5 nights toward your Starwood Preferred Guest Elite status

Am I just unlucky with getting two misinformed AMEX reps, or is something more sinister afoot here? I first called SPG, who referred me to AMEX. Opened the account on 2/23, so it's had plenty o' time to post. Now they claim I don't earn this credit until 2/15/12

UK SPG Amex question

Hi,

I currently hold a UK SPG Amex and I'm SPG Gold.

Could someone tell me if the SPG Platinum status threshold is 45 nights or 50 nights? The US Amex website refers for 45 nights, but I can't find the similar information on the UK Amex website.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

Hi. I think the difference you note is this...

With the U.S. version of the SPG AMEX, you get 2 stays and 5 nights added to your stay/night total, so 45 nights (or 23 stays) would be correct if you hold that card.

That isn't a benefit of either the Canadian or UK SPG AMEX, however, so it will take 50 nights to reach Platinum (or 25 stays).

The actual requirement is 50 nights (or 25 stays) to reach Plat status. If you get a US based SPG AmEx card, that card comes with 5 nights (and 2 stays) added to your yearly totals. Thus you now only need 45 nights (or 23 stays) to reach Plat status.

Also if you have two or more US based SPG branded AmEx cards, you can get the night/stay credits for up to 2 of them (i.e. 10 nights and 4 stays).
