I'm not sure how they got the info so quickly before my auction ended.

Can the SPG50 cert be used for online booking/reservations?

Curious to know if they were quick to close your account because of lack of usage/low usage?

No kidding, in under 30 seconds my card was cancelled and the CSR was saying "Have a nice day!"

It's just my luck, every other credit card that I have tried to cancel in my life turned into an hour long struggle of convincing a dozen people that I really didn't want the card anymore, and then the one time I don't really want to cancel is the one time that they don't give me any hassle!

Oh well, I'll wait a few months and then apply for a new one. Maybe I'll even get another sign-up bonus.

I know this subject has been beaten to death here and elsewhere, but here are my thoughts:

I do not like haggling on the phone for things. If I have been truly not given something I was entitled to under the T&Cs of the SPG or Amex programs (e.g., my account is missing points that I earned through normal means or through a promo), I have no problem at all fighting for it; though often, I will do that online or via e-mail to avoid all the waiting on hold, and to have a written record rather than just "my word against theirs." But, since I agreed to pay a $30 annual fee, I just don't feel comfortable bluffing that I'm going to cancel in order to get something. Just IMHO, and I am not attacking anyone who DOES feel comfortable with this. Also, the pragmatic result can, as attested by a recent post above, be the opposite of what you actually intended -- i.e., sometimes they WILL actually cancel your card without offering you anything!

One reason they may cancel on the spot and not send you to a cancellation specialist is that none of the latter are available at that time.

It happened to me: I called to cancel a card, the CSR started to transfer me and then said there was nobody available so she cancelled it herself.

Greetings all
I also received the Amex referral cards. However when the individual whom I referred went to put in the unique ID and source code identifying me there was no place to do so on the specified link.We are all  :(
Anyone know where in the application process this is supposed to occur?
It is annoying to have to use professional contacts to resolve this later on if we can solve the mystery here. Thanks for the advice or clues if any in advance
Cheers

Item 2 on the application asks for Unique ID.

Darn, no card!

I've just referred 4 people, at least 3 of whom took that card, and opened another SPG Amex account myself. I wish I'd get this promo! Hoping my mail is just slow...

How do you refer people without get the promo since you wouldn't know the unique ID which likely would have identified the you as the source of the referral?

Many of us refer (in a generic sense - "hey, this is (was ;)) the best loyalty program going, you should check it out") people to SPG and the SPG AMEX even without this type of referral bonus. It would be nice to be "compensated" for doing so.

The link is http://americanexpress.com/spgfriend or http://americanexpress.com/spgfriends. You had the p&g reversed. It now also works with or without the s.

Anyone get their 5K points yet?

Afternoon all,

Anyone receive their bonus points yet? How long did it take from the time your friend/family was approved for the card?

Thanks

SacFitz

I'm wondering the same thing. I gave one of the referral cards to my wife, who applied, was accepted, and has already recieved her card and made several purchases. But I still haven't seen any referral bonus points, nor has she gotten her 10,000 signup bonus points. I think the T&C say 8-12 weeks for the points to show up but I'm hoping it doesn't take that long. We'd like to have those points so we can book additional award stays before the devaluation/category creep takes full effect.

Be Aware

Just a quick heads up all.
My colleague to whom I recently referred the card to with this promotion was having trouble getting their application through so I assisted them the next time I was at their office. It is interesting to note that if the applicant clicks on the business SPG card from the landing page where the consumer application is there is a good chance that one may not get referral bonus.
Once the applicant clicks to the business version there doesn’t appear any trace of a source code or place to insert the #.

jimcoddington Dec 15, 2006 1:30 pm

I confirmed that.
