Just to be clear: if one has a personal card, and adds a biz card, they'll get another 10k points on first purchase of biz card?

Seeing as how I've un-lurked myself...
Got the SPG Amex a few weeks back, no issues with receiving the 10k *pts. Got them fairly quickly. My spend levels aren't such that I'll be able to receive (or not!) the extra bonus, so I won't be able to share my experiences in that area.

Yes. I have had the personal card for many years. Got the business card in Feb of this year. 10K posted almost immediately. Still working on the $5,000 in spending.

From February 8:
Still waiting. Each month I send a note via secure messaging and I get a reply back that they're still investigating. This is killing me. This is so unlike the customer service I have received from AMEX in the past. To me, AMEX is about resolving issues in a timely manner - not always they exact way I want it, but at least they're resolved.
--Mike
AMEX is investigating. Customer Service claims that the promo wasn't linked to my account and that some promos are targeted and they're sorry. I wrote back that at the time I was applying the target audience appeared to by anyone who applied for the card on the Amex website.
I just got a reply that it may take 2-3 billing cycles to resolve.
Oi. The CSRs are very polite but don't appear to be very empowered.

I think this valid approach, although I cannot confirm that it works.
As a test, today I cleared my cookies and browsing history. Went to the SPG website, clicked on the offer for the SPG AMEX with 25,000 bonus points (10,000 after first spend..then 15,000 after $5,000 spend). I was taken to an AMEX website that clearly showed the 25,000 point offer. As I was beining to apply, the website offered me the tempetation of completing a "shorter" application form IF i just log in using my existing AMEX account credentials... (i bet you can guess what happens... Right??) Thats Right!! the 25,000 SPG point offer is now replaced with the 10,000 points after first spend-ONLY!!! That is NO 15,000 bonus points after $5000 spend. Oh, but Ive saved myself a few minutes of time by not having to complete the long form...
Gee thanks AMEX :-(
I suspect this is what happened when I applied and why I dont have my 15,000 bonus SPG points...
Dont Let This Happen To You Too!!! 15,000 points is HUGE!!
Its really sad.. Its like SPG wants people to apply and get the 25,000 points, but then AMEX starts playing tricks.

Sorry to keep going back to this matter. In entry #1954 I presented my problem with getting credit for 2 stays/5 nights for elite status. What happened was I talked with a supervisor and she said indeed my points and credit were in another account and she would merge the two. Now it's one week later, the points were merged in 1 account but not the credit for stays/nights were not. So I called up AX again and talked with the CSR and the supervisor and they both said the 2 stays/5 nights is an anniversary bonus and not something you get immediately when you apply for and get the card. You have to wait one year before you get that bonus. Is this true? Or do I have to call another CSR and supervisor? And if they do agree that it comes with the card and NOT one year later, do they have the authority to give my account the credit right then and there Thank you again. Frankly I am puzzled? Seems I get a different answer with every CSR and supervisor I talk to.

Question (yes, I've searched): SPG Amex charged $601 for a 1 night stay at a hotel (non-SPG) in Charleston, S.C. Charge moved from pending to cleared and has been there for 3 days. They're reversing the charge (getting a refund; billing mixup). Will I get the points? Or, do refunds negate any potential point accrual?

Anyone have recent experience regarding pre-paying their SPG Amex prior to making a purchase above their credit limit? Just trying to gauge Amex's temperature as of late...I remember they weren't thrilled with this type of behavior a couple years back when I did it most recently. In the end there were no issues...but they didn't explicitly approve of it, unlike my Citi AA MC which is happy to allow me to run a sizable credit balance on the card prior to making a large purchase.
Amex won't let you make the credit limit go negative (i.e pay more than you owe). Even though I pay my card in full every month, the balance is relatively high due to biz spend.
So whenever I need to apply for new credit, I need to pay to make the card balance zero (or even beyond that if there are charges floating). And this is exactly what I did.... a week before statement cycled, I paid the card in full, and then initiated ANOTHER payment via my bank's bill pay. And voila... had negative balance on my card, it reported on my credit report as a zero balance card

Here's kind of a strange question. I've seen a practice called "churning" in the past to where one cancels a card, and re-applies to get the bonuses.
Does this work for the SPG card?
With the recent reduction in the value of Starpoints as well as the upgraded category level of many hotels, I've cut down on usage of the SPG Amex card by more than 75% in favor of other loyalty programs.
Now that I dont use expenses to get starpoints, i figure i might put the card to another use

New wording in the SPG Amex T&C
Anyone come across this wording:
“If you are identified as a current American Express® Cardmember, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer."
Anyone have success/failure stories in getting the bonus after being an Amex cardmember (I'm sure the SPG card is not the first Amex Card for most of us).
Thanks!

I had an Amex Platinum and a Costco Amex when I applied and got the 30,000 point bonus being offered last August. No issues with the approval or the bonus.
