Baton Rouge Marriott

i have been crashing at the BR Marriott for about 2 months now, and all the while, the gym has been 'under construction'. basically, we have to go to some other hotel's gym to work out. now, they are working also on the Concierge lounge (which has been switched to a conference room on the 2nd floor).

should i contact marriott to see how long it will take to get the gym up? when i ask the desk agents, all they can say is that they don't know...

thanks...

Checked in to the Baton Rouge FS Marriott tonight. Nice property but I can't believe they still have 27in analog TV's! Really ruins my room experience and I don't even watch that much TV. I was late to the game in upgrading my home to HD but I really come to expect it now.

Word from the FD is that they should be upgrading later this month.

If you're still there, can you ask if the exec lounge is open on the weekends. If not, if they give brekkie coupons. If it's closed, is it key accessible for softdrinks? And if there's an i-net terminal or free wifi in the lounge?

I'll update the sticky with any info you can provide/get from staff.

Cheers.

I am staying here now and man, what a dump. This is one of the old-style Marriotts that had made me avoid the brand for so long: Spartan and dated furniture, lots of faded flower prints and fuzzy patterns on carpets, wafer-thin doors and poor soundproofing against the roar of I-10 outside. Just like in the early 90ies.

One of 3 elevators is broken, and the gym is tiny and loveless. The rooms do not have safety boxes and the small work table is cluttered with the coffee maker and a lamp.

On a brighter note, yes there is free Wifi in the lobby and they have switched to flat screen TVs now.

This hotel was cheap. And it feels that way.

This description is still spot on.

I have a pretty high tolerance for mediocre hotels, but this seriously has to be the most disappointing and dated FS Marriott's I've ever come across. An average FI or SHS (or Holiday Inn) would feel significantly more comfortable.

If you want power, plan on moving the (very lumpy) mattress or bringing an extension cord. And don't bother thinking that the thermostat will do anything.

The staff have so far been friendly, but this property is in desperate need of renovation.

The fact that I have Hotel Impossible on TV in the background couldn't be more appropriate.

That hotel has been plagued for a while with poor ownership. It was up for auction by the bank last year and didn't fetch a price anywhere suitable for the lender to sell.

If you need a Marriott in BR the Renaissance is you first choice. Same developer is in the process of renovating a historic building downtown for a Autograph Collection property.

Yep, lesson learned.

Since my last post though, when I went upstairs to the CL, it did actually look like they were starting to renovate some of the rooms in the new 'hardwood floor and sliding glass bathroom door' style. Apparently they did finally find a new buyer back in April - https://www.businessreport.com/artic...10-sells-21-8m

So there may be some hope for this property still.

Completely concur. The best part about the Marriott is being able to walk over to Sullivan's for dinner. Finally, that wasn't enough of a draw, and I've been staying at the Renaissance. Lovely hotel with great food.

"Construction is starting this week on a $23 million renovation of the Baton Rouge Marriott that will involve expanding all the hotel’s 299 rooms. Plans are to take in the balconies to give more space to the hotel rooms and to expand the guest bathrooms, said Jamie Turnage, director of sales for the Baton Rouge Marriott. Work should be complete by late September. The Marriott won’t be closed while the renovations are going on. “We’re going to close floors and have a buffer in between,” Turnage said. The hotel ballroom will be closed for a few months, beginning in July, so it can be remodeled. Renovations also will be done to the lobby, restaurant and exterior."

"As part of a $23 million renovation that begins this month, the Baton Rouge Marriott is planning to overhaul its restaurant and bar area. Hotel manager Ralph Ney says details are still being finalized, but plans call for partnering with a third-party operator or outside chef to develop a destination restaurant with an oyster bar and upscale wine list.“It’s going to be an extensive renovation,” he says. “We’ll also be creating a new entrance for the restaurant.”
