I don't much care about breakfast in the morning as we'll be leaving for the airport about 530am or so. I'll be taking the train into the city but will have to grab a taxi or car to return in the morning.

I'm Titanium so don't care too much about about lounge/breakfast options for this stay. Wouldn't mind an upgrade but looking for the best property, close to a SkyTrain station and will get a solid night sleep. Sounds like Sheraton Grand is a solid option, any other recommendations?

i would just find something close to the airport unless you need nights qualify. At earliest you get to the hotel by 11pm and leaving by 530a... giving you about 7 hours. not worth it to go into town unless you are using points or the rate is extremely attractive.

At that time of night take a taxi from the airport. I would pay for VIP greet service at the airport to get through immigration quickly (check the airport website) and stay at the Aloft given you wont get much in the way of benefits at that time of night.

Unless you're planning in some nightlife thing why not just stay at the airport hotel or any of the ones within a 10 minute drive, most of which provide comp shuttle service?

Totally agree. Even at 11 pm traffic on Sukhumvit can be awful. Could take an hour to reach hotel.

If the OP is trying to stay with Marriott/SPG, I don't think there are any convenient airport hotel options. My understanding is that the Le Meridien near the airport takes almost as long to get to as going to one of the hotels in the city.

There are times it's best to go outside program. This would be one of them. It simply makes no sense to spend 90 minutes of a 7 hour layover in a taxi. And for what? A room upgrade? A breakfast that you will miss because you're checking out too early?

NO, it takes about 15 minutes from the ap - couldn't get to any downtown ones in that time unless u take a helicopter ;)

For flights landing super early or very late, it's really not that much longer to go into town than to go to the Le Meridien. Does it really matter whether a ride is 15min or 25min? Obviously in rush-hour it's a different story.

I stayed at the Le Meridien near the airport (Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa) a few weeks ago since I flew in and had a flight to Chiang Mai the next morning. After landing around 1030PM, was through customs, got my baggage, sim card, and was in the hotel about 15 minutes drive. Got all checked in before 1120PM. The morning drive to the airport from the hotel only took 15 minutes as well. I didn't feel as rushed as I would coming from the hotels in the city. It's not a horrible option in the program, although I wouldn't have stayed there if I didn't have the flight the next morning.

Indeed great property especially if you need to fly early or you are really into golf, but it's not near the airport - at least 12 KM from the airport in the middle of nowhere (golf course). The good thing is that they have a comped airport shuttle 24/7 - as you need it. Got upgraded to a huge suite with balcony overlooking the greens and connecting room with executive benefits, welcome gift, breakfast, etc. but had to leave at 5:30 AM for the airport.
