SPG INSTANT AWARDS

SPG Participation Policy

There are no standard rooms at this resort; therefore, Starpoint Award reservations must be booked at a higher Starpoint rate through your local customer contact center. Also, since all accommodations are either suites or villas, upgrades for Starwood Preferred Guest members do not apply.

Non-Smoking Policy

The resort is committed to providing guests and associates with an enhanced quality of air and environment by providing 100% non-smoking guest rooms, suites, and villas. Violations of this policy will incur a 250 USD penalty. Designated smoking areas are available in public areas.

Seclusion Day Information: March 9, 2016

Nyepi, known as the “Day of Silence,” marks the celebration of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar. A spectacular procedure of ceremonies, parades of great bamboo monsters, and fireworks occur on the Eve of Nyepi, followed by a day of total silence and seclusion. The community strongly believes that if the island is silent and dark, the bad spirits will leave and the new year will start in peace. During Nyepi, from 6am until 6am the next day, the island stops. Nobody is allowed in the streets, use of electricity is restricted, and the international airport is closed.

In 2016, Nyepi will fall on Wednesday, March 9. Please note that check-in and checkout will not be possible on Nyepi Day, and Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) will be closed. Some of the resort facilities will operate as usual; however, there will be no transportation services to and from the resort, and televisions will not be available. Lights will be dimmed inside and there will be no outdoor lighting. Our pools and garden areas will still be accessible except for the beach. Only indoor seating will be available at Boneka Restaurant. Gourmand Deli will close at 8pm. King Cole Bar will remain closed.

We kindly invite you to respect this sacred day and observe these restrictions. Normal activity in Bali will resume at 6am on Thursday, March 10.

StR Bali is back on Hot Escapes. I took the plunge, and cancelled my points reservation and paid up the cash (and applied an SNA for the Plunge Pool). Total cost is $2,300 for 5 nights, versus the 151,000 points I had laid out prior to the making the cash booking.

Considering I'd get triple value for those points at somewhere like the StR Saaidyat Island (at least until it moves up a category), I feel like I've done the right thing!

And it's nice to see a healthy balance back in my account [even after booking at the StR Saadiyat again for next year too]!

That's over $10,000 of premium air travel awards, a very nice "return" on a $2,300 investment. Bravo.

Haha, I expected you might conclude the above! Air miles are not my problem, however. I have plenty of those. The issue is more that BA are making it frickin tough to spend them these days! But I digress...

Yeah, I'm trying to pull my BA balance down to zero, just isn't worth it anymore. I'm off to Bali this summer but booked with AA. Checking flights daily to see if I can change to BA, but we are obviously in the window when little is available on CX. W for us, but with kids and friends from Australia so need the energy of Seminyak. Enjoy the SR. Villa 826 is a winner.

Currently have 2 Plunge Pool suites booked for end of December 2015.

- Is the lagoon access restricted to guests that have booked the lagoon villas?
- What about beach access? Mrs. YVR wants to spend some of this time at the beach.
- I don't see any mention of cabanas on the resort web site. Are there any cabanas available for rent?

Just wondering if I'm better off upgrading our rooms.

The lagoon (which is incredible BTW and one of our favorite spots at this hotel) is open to all guests, as is the beach too. Don't know about cabanas.

Edited to add: we used points here a few years ago and used cash to upgrade to plunge pool suites. Money well spent although looking back on it now wish we had paid to upgrade all the way to lagoon suites. It was an incredible vacation and despite our love of the property and Bali can't see us going back soon since we now have a baby!

As others have said, you are welcome to use the lagoon and beach. And I'm sure you'll love both.

Regarding cabanas, I guess my definition of them is different from others. There are LOTS of what I call cabanas / day beds all over the place. We parked ourselves often outside Kayuputi, and at the lagoon. Even though the resort was at 100% capacity, not once did we have trouble finding a decent spot anywhere.

One of the charms of this resort is that regardless of how full it is, it still somehow manages to remain incredibly quiet, available and private.

You'll love the plunge pool rooms, don't worry! How often you'll actually use it is an entirely different matter!

The only thing I didn't like about the plunge pool suite is that there are at least 2 floors of rooms above you. These rooms each have a balcony offering a view into your back garden (they can see your plunge pool and cabana). So keep that in mind.

Hopefully no one gets room 317.

From CNN:
"Schaefer was sentenced to 18 years in prison for battering von Wiese-Mack to death in room 317 of the St. Regis Bali Resort.

Schaefer had claimed he killed his girlfriend's mother in self-defense after a violent argument erupted over the young couple's relationship"

Does anyone know if you can apply a SNA on top of a Plunge Pool Suite Reservation?

Stayed here on a corporate rate as an SPG Platinum a few weeks ago, mid May 2015. Booked a Plunge Pool Suite and got upgraded to a one bedroom Lagoon Villa (wowza).

I highly recommend the afternoon tea at the King Cole Bar.

Below are some pics.

If you can manage the risk, use one! I would have stayed at ~50 different SPG properties in the past 12 months and only one (St Regis Shenzhen) has asked me for a business card because I'm on a corporate rate.
