3500 delegates?!? Wow!
Agreed with dilbertsdaddy Batistas is a good eats. Do not be put off by the decor.
I was at the Westin for a few nights over july 4 th holiday....the room was not up to the usual Starwood cleanliness. The breakfast buffet was very good and staff very friendly. Just the hard product was showing some wear. Do stay at the the Bellagio one night. It really is a pleasure. Take advantage of the pool, workout area or the 7 bars\lounges overlooking the facilities.

Bellagio is more than I want to pay for a trip when I'll literally be in the room for sleeping and sleeping only. If this was a pleasure visit and/or I was with my wife, I'd gladly stay at the Bellagio. Again, really wanna pick up some stay/night credits, so the Westin seemed right.

How far am I from the Sands convention centre ?
Wonder if you guys can help.
I am looking at a 5 night stay for a convention being held at the sands.
Expedia have a great discounted rate at £62 per night for a premium room, (about $99) so have submitted a BRG claim accordingly !
It LOOKS on the map to be just a five minute walk to the sands expo centre, but as it is about 15 years since I last went to Vegas, I don't recall that area too well (and the Strip has changed beyond recognition)
Is that a practical and safe walk ? Is there anything i need to be aware of ?
SPG Gold, so hopefully some nice amenities available ?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give !! (All other guys are staying at the Wynn/Encore, but i want to be away from all that !)

Its a longer walk then 5 mins, its maybe a 5 min cab ride depending on traffic. Ive walked it before but it all depends on the time of yr I wouldnt do it in the summer. Theres always The Venetian if you want IHG its an IC, which owns the Sands Expo center and maybe even has an inside walkway (not sure) connected to one another
It's definitely more than 5 min from the Westin,.

Trip Report
Stayed for 1 night on points with family recently (12K points). Applied for a SNA award and it was accepted. We were upgraded to the top floor in an executive suite (though the SNA confirmation listed a high roller suite, which was labelled differently on the rooms but I did not get to see the difference).
The room was a suite (separate room for living area with a sofa bed). My daughter said that the sofa bed was the least comfortable of the places where we stayed with sofa beds for her during our vacation. (others: westin mammoth lake, le meridien palm springs). She did not like the bed and said it was hard/could feel the springs. Other than this issue, the room was very nice (the bed was great, the room sizes were large, bathroom was nice, etc. It had a small kitchen area (fridge, sink, no cooking area).
A minor issue: there was work going on with the sprinkler system during our visit, and our room's sprinker started dripping annoyingly during our visit. a small towel + rubber band ensured our sleep without annoying dripping sounds for the night. I found the maintenance guys in the hallway the next day and showed it to them - they had not upgraded that particular piece of equipment but they were going through the floor and replacing pieces for regular maintenance. They were very willing to come see where the issue was and follow-up on it for us after we left.
we ate at the restaurant for dinner and (as plat - mostly free) breakfast. The dinner options were very nice and the buffet in the morning was very good for a free plat breakfast - the kid's buffet was pretty cheap, iirc.
We visited the pool - it was fine but not spectacular (in comparison to the mega-resort places on the strip that are not free on SPG points ). We had a great time there - the fruity drinks were fruity and did the trick.
It's a nice option to have in vegas, especially if you want to stay on points. This hotel is not trying to be the flashiest hotel in Vegas, but it is to the Westin standard of service and it is close to the strip. (We went to the Mirage via cab to see the Blue Man Group when we were there - too hot to walk), and it was close enough to the strip to be really convenient.
We did not gamble while there (though there is a small casino in the hotel).
We were told that we were the "guest of the day" (25 people selected from the plats, I think) and were given a set of options - I chose 2000 points. I will note that they have not posted though the hotel stay posted 5-6 nights ago.

Quick review, and by quick I mean:
The best thing I can say about this hotel is: I slept well here. Otherwise, I haven't been this ambivalent about a hotel....ever? They're not doing anything wrong, per se....but it seems they're also not doing anything right.
Signs of wear and tear are showing.
Casino area is kind of....how do I say this without offending anyone....trashy? I've seen people ranging from homeless to those walking around with 22 ounce Bud Ices....kind of smells down there, too.
I had a good check-in experience, and a bad concierge experience (was using his cell phone when I walked up, had to interrupt him; didn't know where a Walgreens was).
I'd give this stay a "C"...

Recently stayed here and the wifee used the spa - there was a promotion for a 1000 Starpoints.......It has been exactly 2 weeks and the points have not posted as of yet - I also sent them an email but no response. How long does it usually take for points like this to post? Don't they just send it down to the front desk for posting?

Tried converting slot points earned at their casino to SPG points at this hotel - never got the points.
Showed them the paperwork for the transfer on my next stay and was told it would be sorted. Never got the points.

Hit and miss... I've had success checking in and out at the gold/plat desk, and mentioning something about internet being free for elites. In my experience they will remove part or all of the amenity fees...

Recent stay was missing 500 MAGC and 2000 BRG starpoints. Required 4 weeks followup to finally have my account updated. The BRG was not honoured at checkout and had a difficult conversation with the FD associate. FDM stayed in office and had the associate shuttle back and forth with questions and promises. Felt like I was buying a used car.
