Got charged this on a stay last week, despite reports here and them telling me at check-in that it's waived for plats. When I called the property that said that they can't do anything about it after you checkout. They did offer to connect me to accounting, but I emailed the folio to my ambassador to see if she can sort it out for me.

I was also not impressed that we had to pay $5.00 to print out some etickets at their business center ($3.80 internet fee + $1.20 printing). Printing is one thing, but I can't remember the last time I've been to an SPG property that charges its own guests for internet use.

Resort fees are nothing more than a gouge. Personally, if I was told I would not charged at check-in and they end up charging me, I'd contest the charge. Let them eat the fees from the CC processor and add to their permanent record of cheating customers.

As for the internet/printing, you probably used a third-party service that provided the equipment and network connection. Typically the property does not have any control over the costs there. Always look for the fine print and who's providing the service. If it was billed to your room, then you "might" be able to get it reversed at the front desk, otherwise SOL.

I believe it was the Four Points by Richmond Airport I had to pay for printing....

In my experience at the property (probably 10 or 15 stays) they always remove the amenity charge. However you have to ask them to do it at check out.

I think they just haven't figured out (or bothered to) a way to do it automatically.

I rarely stop by the desk to check out at hotels. The one exception I make is for properties with a resort charge. It seems to be the only way to guarantee a resort charge is removed even at properties that say they wave it.

room renovatoins

Im considering staying the weekend after the CES show Jan 5-9th. Anyone has stayed recently and seen the status of renovations and willing to share? Are they done tearing up the lobby and hopefully will update the normal bedrooms and occasional moldy showers?

We stayed here less than two weeks ago. The renovations will not be completed until after your dates of travel. There was no noticeable lobby work as they had a temporary wall covering some renovations. We stayed on the top floor and did not see any changes there at that time, but did have a quiet stay compared to what can happen on the Strip.

However, if you have platinum status you can choose the breakfast buffet which is a nice upgrade, and they still have the daily manager's reception for all guests.

I was there the week of the 10th.

It was all dug up on the first floor. I was on top floor on floor 17.

1 hour strict managers reception. Be on time or miss out!

Serious downsides for me included;
-I could hear my loud talking neighbors nextdoor. I rarely have this problem in any hotel brand, especially SPG hotel brands
-I could hear emergency sirens late at night

Anyone got an update here? Considering it for an anniversary getaway. Been all around the US but for some reason, I have never been to Vegas.

You haven't been missing much at all. Unless you need a status earning stay or just burning points there are so many other options and possibly for less available along the strip. Starwood is also partnered with Harrah's Total Rewards program that you might find some good deals there. If it was me, I'd check out the shows to see if there's anything in particular that was interesting and pick a place close there. Driving in the area isn't totally horrible, but nice if you can avoid it.

This property being "off strip" does give it some attraction, but it is pretty close. I would not consider it a destination property in any sense, but was one of the few SPG choices in the area. Good for earning credit when attending a conference in the area, but that's about it.

I stayed here last November for a week. Walls are a bit thin if you have partying neighbors, which I did have one night. The evening reception lives on - you can go get a few drinks for free - and some appetizer. This space does get pretty crowded.

The casino downstairs is pretty small of course and limited. The SPG recognition was pretty minimal for myself. You can easily walk to most things you need around here, but Vegas isn't a place to walk up and down - so you will still need a car/taxi to get anywhere really.

The very first Element hotel is in Summerlin and does a great job. There is also a Westin over on a lake, that is outside of town.

So would a decent take be "no great shakes, but not a horror story ala 4P Miami Beach"?

Considering it as it's literally steps from a hotel where I'm attending a wedding and significantly cheaper than even the room block, would I regret it for one night? Sleep quality issue referenced above isn't an issue as I don't expect to get much myself between wedding and then flying out.

I was going to go non SPG until I realized how close this Westin was so I'm willing to consider other options, but the adjacent strip properties don't seem any cheaper and August = rather close than dealing with taxis, etc.

Thanks

There's nothing wrong with the property. If you have a car it is much easier to park and enter the hotel than the massive theme hotels and no waiting for the valet. It's nice enough but does not have any pizazz you would associate with Vegas. For conventions it's perfect.

Yeah nothing really wrong with the property per se, but it also offers no wow-factors.
