Recent stay here. No suite but room upgrade to corner room room on high floor. Great view of the city.
Picked breakfast as plat amenity. $15 credit per person for up to 2 guests per room at lobby restaurant. Nice breakfast/brunch selections.
Also to point out the W car service now runs about noon to 7pm. Great to get around almost anywhere in the city.

Just finished a 3 night stay here last week for a conference - the convenience of the W to the Moscone Center cannot be overestimated.
As Gold, was recognized at check-in, moved up to a high floor, corner room.
Very nice room design, great work area setup.
One downside of the super high floor was actually being able to hear the elevator motors turning on late at night (seriously!)
Very energetic, positive service overall.
Had one quick meal in the Living Room Bar, great service, small portions.
An overlooked amenity has to be the table style Donkey Kong/Ms. Pacman machine in the lobby bar.

Did you have to give up the points for the Donkey Kong/Ms Pacman machine?

Getting a Corner Room on a high floor as a Gold during a trade show/conference time at the Moscone is actually a pretty good upgrade IMHO. As a Platinum that's pretty much all I have ever gotten at the W during my past stays. Last stay I had in January will probably be my last. Manager actually had the nerve to tell me they could limit upgrades during busy trade show times to a one category upgrade...even though that clearly is against SPG terms.

Interesting you say that. I really don't like how the desk is built into the wall. You're kind of shoved into the dark looking at a wall with no view of the city (why have a corner room then?) or the television. I like the W but if I'm going to spend a lot of time in my room working, I move across the street to the Westin for that very reason. Hey, I liked building forts as a kid; I just don't want to work in one.

If other rooms have built in desks staring at walls... no thanks.
And the Ms. Pacman / Donkey Kong game took quarters not Starpoints... though a roll of quarters WOULD be an interesting check-in amenity to offer...

Just finished a stay here and a quick review/summary
Two separate bookings, one on points another AAA prepaid rate (rate was $100 cheaper each night by splitting up the stay). Made the reservations 3 months ago and at the time spoke with Plat concierge about ensuring not having to move rooms. He/she said they spoke with the property and that was not a problem and attached my suite nights to both reservations. At that time was told no problem with the upgrade and I was assured I wouldn't have to switch rooms. Well the day of arrival at about 3, received an email saying my suite nights for the longer portion of my stay were rejected, (I never received an email acceptance just word via the plat concierge). After some back and forth the front desk person apologized several times but said we would have to move twice if we were extended the suite awards. So first night was put in a great suite room, then had to move rooms the next day. They did upgrade to a corner room, but after seeing that fabulous suite, was disappointed. We pressed in not having to change rooms but the front desk person stated the Manager refused, after some more gave up, by that time it was 3 in the morning my time and just wanted to get to bed after a long flight.
Breakfast coupon as the plat amenity which was very good, however, dined three times, two times they did not take off the $30. Had that corrected upon checkout, but just another thing.
Acura service was great and all the workers were very nice and helpful. If they did not mess with our suite awards I would definitely stay here again, but I will not. They may have made an extra $300 a night on putting someone in that suite, but my semiannual work trips where I spend well over $1,500 a stay will not be made there.

It is very difficult to get a suite on nearly any night at this property without paying for it well ahead of time, so I wouldn't count on any word given three months in advance regarding a suite night award which won't even be looked at until within 5 days of arrival. SF has been very busy this year and those suites get snapped up nearly every night and the longer the stay is the less likely one will be available for all nights of a stay.

Stayed at the W San Francisco Thu-Sat a few weeks ago.
Tried applying SNAs to get a suite, but they were sold out only Fri night. Oh well. Ended up in a room on the 22nd floor, with the Bay Bridge in the background. There was construction going on in front, currently a few floors down. That room won't have a view much longer. I wasn't in the room during the day, so the construction didn't bother me.
I'm a big fan of the W hotels and their design. When the bar had a DJ on Fri night, the lobby and elevators were playing the same music. The bed was comfortable, internet was fast and I liked the sitting space in the window. After 4 weeks in hotels, I was pretty tired of breakfast buffets, so the continental breakfast (platinum amenity) was light and refreshing. A croissant, a muesli with yoghurt and a small fruit salad. Although the platinum voucher was $15 (the cost of the breakfast) they gave me coffee and juice for free as well.
I normally stay at the Palace, but wanted to try something different on my own. I'll probably head back to the Palace going forward, especially when the family comes along. The Palace is more conveniently located and has an awesome breakfast.
Rented a car on departure. It was a bit of a zoo to get in and out, but the valet folks were friendly and helpful. A lot of construction going on.

Just completed my first stay at W SF. I booked the Extreme WOW Suite. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay.
I indicated on SPG.com that I would arrive at 5pm. I arrived at 6pm and was told the room wasn't ready. I understand that room readiness can be an issue at times, but not when you are booked into a one-of-a-kind room type and indicate prior to arrival when you will be there. I was very understanding and the girl at the Welcome Desk was sweet and offered me drink coupons. I would've used them, except I had my dog with me and wasn't going to take him into the bar lol When I finally got into the room, there were dirty towels on the floor and long black hairs on the bathroom wall. Plus, the shower handle was broken and hanging off the wall. Now, I am not super high maintenance, but for $1300/night, I wouldn't expect to find such oversights. The furniture in the room was well-worn and just very disappointing. The suite was not much bigger than some of the "Fantastic" and "Cool Corner" rooms I've had at other properties (although that's my fault as I should've checked the square footage online when booking).
The staff were very nice. All of the Welcome Desk staff and guys at Wheels were great. We ordered room service dinner and the food was very good.
I give priority to W properties when booking, but have found after recent stays at NY Union Square, Atlanta Midtown and now this one, that the levels of experience have been dwindling - however, the international properties continue to be excellent. I've started to be put off by W's overall, and will try to stick with Westin, St Regis and Lux Coll.
The hotel told me that they will be embarking on a renovation next year, so be aware that this hotel is a little worn.
