If they pre-upgrade a Cobalt, Ambassador or Titanium to a suite you are not going to get that suite as a Platinum. I assume the managers comments about who they upgrade being at their discretion was meant to mean that they would upgrade members staying there with a higher status.
Fair enough, though I have to add that I was checking in close to midnight. Certainly could always be that there was a higher tier checking in later.

But it all went south when the app showed an upgrade to an exec room and the first Agent tried to convince me that the deluxe room she gave me was in fact an exec room though it clearly wasn't. So if they play the deceiving game, I'll push to the max.
Note: I probably would not have even bothered to check the app had they given me an exec room as per App and initial checkin procedure. Spiralled only when the deceiving started.

gilbertaue A downgrade or being lied to about what they are giving you is definitely unacceptable so I would have took issue with that as well.

Stay Report - 12/9 to 12/11

Location: The best part of the hotel. It's right on the Openring which means it's right by four tram lines (1/2/71/D), the U-Bahn at Karlsplatz, an easy walk to a number of the big Vienna sites including the Museum Quarter and it's in a lovely neighborhood with plenty of places to eat, drink etc.

Hotel: The hotel is a weird mix of modern and classic. The outside looks like most buildings in Vienna but the inside is much more modern. There's a small pantry in the lobby, a large breakfast restaurant, a really nice bar which also serves dinner, a fitness center on the 6th floor and of course because it's Europe...tiny elevators.

Check In: We arrived at 2:30 PM and were able to get checked in. Sadly no upgrade was offered. We were given the choice of breakfast or bonus points and housekeeping or drink coupons

Room: I booked a two bed Executive/Large Room. It was large enough I guess, especially for Europe. The beds were fairly small with only two thin pillows each and our TV didn't work. What did work nicely was soundproofing, the room was really quiet. Wifi worked well and there was plenty of power outlets. The bathroom was a baffling design with a great shower shoved into too tiny a space. I did receive a nice welcome amenity.

Dining: Breakfast was a really good buffet with sausage, bacon, potatoes, an omelet bar, pancakes, a lot of cold cuts, cheese, vegetables, smoked salmon and breads. The bar as I mentioned was very nice and we had a good dinner there too.

So a mixed stay overall. I was paying 435E a night and ended up in a pretty basic room in which some stuff didn't work. But it made for a good base of operation for Vienna.
