Detroit Marriott Troy, MI [Master Thread]
I post all the time when things go horribly wrong but sometimes things just go so consistently right that I have to mention it. I'm not sure how many of you have stayed at the Troy, MI marriott (tower) but I can honestly say it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at for both service and quality of the room.
I've stayed here 3 times now and there are too many instances to go over but things from valet to service when something isn't right to quality of the room to cleanliness of the hotel to the friendly staff. It's interesting how a hotel like this can be so well managed when other similar hotels in other cities are not. It's a shame more Marriotts can't be like this. anyway, just my two cents~ If you have a chance to stay in the Detroit area, I would recommend this place. |
I've stayed quite a bit at the Marriott there and also like it. I definitely like eating at the Shula's Steakhouse there. ^ It has been a while since my last stay there, but I'm glad to see that it looks like things are still good there.

Stayed there many times...Great Hotel
If only I could get Starwood to clean up their act in Detroit  |
I have stayed there a number of times. The only negative was that I never saw anything approaching an upgrade. However, eating at Shula's made up for that tenfold.

Shula's? For steak? When Ruth's Chris, Capital Grill, and Morton's are within 5 minute drives? And when Detroit's finest steak, the fillet at Lelli's, is 15 minutes? Well, maybe, if you don't have a car or want the points.
|
Ruth's Chris is over-rated in my book. Morton's is OK, but not any better than Shula's. And, I guess you have to live in Detroit to know about Lelli's and the Capital Grill.

Though actually for less money, I personally like the J Alexanders just down the street. It is much less expensive, usually has great service, great rolls, and nice steaks as well. |

Ooops, I see from their web site that they are all over the place. In all my travels, I have never heard of Capital Grille nor has anyone, including customers, recommended Capital Grille. Sorry.
|
we ate at Mortons tonight! The steaks were fabulous although the Creme Bruele (sp?) was a bit flat.
and yea, I've yet to get into the club level here at this marriott. Not that that is so bad since the regular rooms are so good. But I wonder what it takes to get onto the club level in this place. |
Also about 3 minutes drive is the newest outpost of one of Detroit's better operations: Kruse and Muers. (The Muer is the well-known late restauranteur Chuck Muer of Charley's Crab fame.)
http://www.kruseandmuerrestaurants.c...taurantID=1065 Which reminds me, the flagship of the Charley's Crab brand is 7-10 minutes north on I-75 at the Crooks Road exit. Quite a beautiful restaurant, but now part of the Landry's chain. Lelli's, locally famous for Italian and particularly for its fillet, is by the Silverdome in Pontiac, where the famously pathetic Lions used to play. |
Now your talkin' Ohmark. I have had many a good meal at the exact Charley's Crab to which you refer. They used to have a seafood bucket that came with many goodies. Outstanding restaurant.

I'm currently at the Troy Marriott. I've been here many times over the last 5-6 years. I was shocked to see they charge $12 per glass of wine now in the Concierge Lounge. Beer is $6. When did wine get so expensive in this lounge? I suspect I could have gotten it cheaper in the main bar.

Is it at least a decent wine? BTW - it will be interesting to see if the new $10 cert for Plats can be applied to honor bar in exec lounges.
Cheers. |
