Inquiry about new policy [getting points & stay credit on gifted room]
So I used to always gift my clients hotel rooms wherever I can as a thank you with SPG.
I used to off course get the nights and the points.
I tried to do this but a property blocked it and removed my number since I wasn't there.
Did anything change or was it just bad luck?

I think it has always been the policy at both SPG and Marriott that there are no points/no nights if you don't stay yourself.
Not every hotel catches it.

Here's a thread form a year ago, when SPG was still a separate program from Marriott Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy was still far in the future.
SPG status nights without in-person check-in
