I understand the standard upgrade for Plat. is Junior Suite at LM Shanghai. I am wondering if I book a Junior Suite, possible to be upgraded to a Deluxe Suite? Any experience? Thanks.

I stayed there a Friday and Saturday in late June. Used Suite nights to upgrade to a suite, and ended up in a Royal Suite. It was a huge 1 bedroom thing that was easily 800+ sq ft. Very nice upgrade.

We don't mind at all but I am afraid we do not have the answers as well. The issue has been managed by our colleagues at the Customer Service team.

Can people please help me with the difference in locations between RM and Westin. It seems the consensus is the RM is in better location for tourists, but isn't the Bund the place to be? I will be going to Shanghai for the first time soon. Thanks.

They are very close to each other. I wouldn't make the decision on location.

It really depends what is important to you, everyone has "their thing". The LRM wins for access to the subway as it is basically on top of the People's Square station. Their lounge has great views and a decent spread. There is plenty going on around the area of the LRM. The Westin is well located, easy walk to Nanjin Rd and the Bund area. The Bund is really nothing special, flocks of tourists walking around thinking it's cool when it's just shopping. The Westin wins on evening lounge food, it's probably the best I have been in anywhere for variety, there was even a carving station with roast duck one of the nights I was there. At both properties I received a junior suite, the bathroom at the Westin was huge but the LRM wasn't exactly shabby. Both properties allowed the Platinum breakfast in the main restaurant (buffet) or in the lounge. Both gave great service, never had a problem with either one.

Read the master threads for each property to get more information on the nuances between each one, you can't go wrong staying either place or consider splitting your stay.

I agree with you on almost all points. The exception is that if you want to eat on the Bund you can walk there from the Westin and from the LM it is a cab ride. I go back and forth between the two hotels. The last two stays were at the Westin but the next one is the LM. For me, I choose whoever has the better rate although both seem to always have cash and points.

I stayed here two weeks ago and as a Platinum guest, I was offered:

-Junior Suite upgrade (Suite night award)
-500 Point Welcome amenity
-Club Lounge access for evening appetizers and breakfast
-Free wifi
-4pm late checkout was granted

I have an award stay next month at the Le Meridien Shanghai. I am Platinum. From reading these posts, it appears most Platinums receive a comp upgrade to a Junior Suite. I was wondering if I used my Suite Night upgrades from SPG, would I receive a better upgrade than a Junior Suite or would I be wasting them because they would only upgrade to a Junior Suite?

If you go into your reservation and begin the process to apply the SNAs, a bunch of different room types will appear. You can check only the ones that you consider worth the use of the SNA, for example room types other than the junior suite or club level junior suite. The junior suites are very nice, in particular ones that I've been given with the People's Square and Bund corner view. There's a nice bathroom with amazing views from the bathtub and even the dressing room/closet has good views. However, it's one big room with separate sitting and sleeping areas. Mine had the bathroom on the living room side, which seemed a bit odd. The hotel seems to have lots of junior suites, although it's nice to get one on a high floor with good views. I would guess that your odds of getting a junior suite without the use of a SNA would be very good except for special dates.

On my last visit, I was upgraded into the top room category for SNAs without using a SNA as a previous guest at the property and Plat50 not using SNAs for two nights. It was a real suite and had a separate powder room, so that it could work for business meetings, but both the living room and the bedroom were small by USA standards. I think this may have been above and beyond the regular Plat suite upgrade pool.

stayed at here for 2 nights. We used points to further upgrade to Royal Suite (was upgraded to Deluxe Suite as platinum and paid the points difference 6k)

I booked the room under our corporate rate which includes breakfast and internet. So we had buffet at level L and also got my 500 points.

The service at the hotel is just average.... my ambassador confirmed Deluxe suite for me piror to the stay. When i was checking in, i was informed that 'we have upgraded you to Royal Club room.... You will have access to level 44 royal club...' right.... When i asked them about the upgrade, i was then told 'we have a junior suite available that we upgrade our platinum guests to...' then i showed them the email from my ambassador ... somehow a deluxe suite becomes available....

Given the choices of SPG hotels in Shanghai, I think I will stay at another one next time...

Returning here soon and I forgot about the Club Lounge benefit details. Is pressing included? 2 pieces?

Yes you're right, two pieces pressing complementary, though I'd request collection through the lounge as the first time I tried it using normal room service I was charged for it upon check out, which they had to verify with the laundry department before finally waiving.
