The Sheraton New Orleans is our go-to hotel in NOLA and we stay there at least eight times a year, usually for two nights at a time. We like the location as it is close to Bourbon Street and only five blocks from Harrah's Casino.
The lounge is located on the 42nd floor and is one of the nicer U.S. domestic Sheraton lounges. It is open 24 hours. The lounge breakfast is served in a secluded section of the Roux Bistro restaurant on the 2nd floor and is an extensive buffet served daily from 6:30 - 10:30 a.m. So, in that regard you get a restaurant quality breakfast and get to choose points as your Platinum amenity! Complimentary Hors D'oeuvres are served daily from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m with beer and wine available for purchase. The rest of the day you can access complimentary water, coffee, tea and soft drinks along with chips and granola bars.
I have received an upgrade to an Executive Suite in six of the last eight stays. But again, as I said I stay here at least eight times each year.

Holiday time vacation in New Orleans planned (with middle school aged children and older parents). I am trying to decide between the JW and the Marriott. I realize they are right by each other, so location no so much the deciding factor. Taking into consideration that this will be the week of Christmas, thoughts on which is better? Interested in feedback on pools (and whether they might be open) as well as Exec Lounge/M Lounge (quality and also whether they will be open during the holiday week). Any other general thoughts would be great. Any feedback appreciated.

Looking to book a Marriott hotel in New Orleans near Canal Street or the French Quarter. Will be staying 20 nights for business, have Platinum status. Important concerns for me is a good lounge, and decent room for a 20 night stay. Any recommedations?

Either the Marriot on Canal Street or the JW. The Marriott itself is bigger than the JW and has slightly more convenient valet parking, but the elevators can take a long time. I like the M Club Lounge at the Marriott a bit more as well. But we're splitting hairs at this point.

Unfortunately none of those have a lounge...
Westin you get breakfast buffet but no lounge
Renaissance Pere there is technically a 'lounge' but it is really a side room with water/snacks/coffee. You get breakfast buffet however.
Q&C you get to pick anything from the breakfast menu (they don't have a buffet) but no lounge.

TownePlace Suites Metarie
For those that don’t need to stay downtown I find this property a good option with $99/night rates available most times of the year and a good option for families. Only 10-15 minutes from downtown/French Quarter

Mardi Gras is basically canceled this year.
Unfortunately, I cannot help with your general question. I had several reservations but canceled them when I couldn’t attend Saints home games.
if you’re not set on late February, I would postpone to March or early April. Weather is usually much nicer.
