I was just looking and it now shows as available for the couple of dates I checked. ^
William, maybe you need to tell them that you (and your trusted evangelist lieutenants ) will be doing regular spot checks and they shouldn’t turn the tap off the moment your back is turned! Both this property and the St Regis in the same city have been a touch naughty historically in this regard.

There are several reports on TripAdvisor that many rooms at this hotel have become stale and badly need a renovation. Since the rates (+ taxes) are not exactly low, I wonder whether any FTers who have stayed here recently (at regular rooms rather than fancy suites) comment on their impressions about the hotel? Also, how good are the lounge offerings in the evening?

i did not sample the lounge offerings in the evening but i did use the lounge twice to meet some people & they serve tea/coffee & biscuits throughout the day....

I need some advice on this hotel. If coming to Mumbai as a tourist (first time in India) for 5 nights, would you stay at ITC Grand for all 5 nights or split it between JW (3 nights) and ITC Grand (2 nights)?
I have an LNF for both scenarios and both hotels are similar price. St Regis would be double the price.
I heard that the rooms at ITC Grand are showing their age but what is the lounge like? And I guess it’s easy to walk to shopping malls nearby and would be easier to get to tourist attractions by taxi.
On the other hand I heard the JW has a great hard product but it’s next to the airport.
Try both or stick to IFC Grand?
Advice much appreciated!

Though there are many shops just outside the ITC Grand Central, these are of no interest to tourists (cheap junk, etc), and there are no proper restaurants within walking distance. Phoenix Mall (closest mall, where the StR is located) is not walking distance, but a 7-10 min taxi ride. Colaba and other tourist spots are “easily” accessible through the flyover, around 20 minutes by taxi.
While Starriott doesn’t have any perfectly located properties in Mumbai (Taj Mahal, Oberoi, and Trident are the absolute winners), the ITC presents a good compromise, albeit with old rooms. Lounge is fine, with great views and good service, although snacks vary wildly, from days with many options to others with much fewer choices.

There are two JWs in Mumbai: Juhu and Sahar. Juhu is a northern suburb by the beach, with some nice restaurants around but not much more. Beach is too polluted for swimming. Sahar is by the airport and next to absolutely nothing of interest.

I was actually referring to Marriott Sahar. I heard that this hotel is really good in terms of lounge and room quality. Given that I could book tours starting there and at other times just relax at the hotel like a resort, I was thinking that it’d be better to have 3 nights at Marriott Sahar and 2 nights at ITC Grand Central. What do you think? Of course if St Regis was cheaper, I could go for that but it’s not in this case. Thanks again.
