Booking
Nights available on points:
- Open up 12 months out
- Availability seems to open up five weeks out.
Fees when booking on points:
- City Tax of 400 XPF for each night
Transportation
PPT-BOB Flights:
- Round trip $350-600 per person
- Premium ticket includes more checked baggage allowance, priority boarding (sit on the left side for island views), and drink on board.
- Air Tahiti is strict with their baggage allowance. Excess baggage is $1.5 per pound over the limit.
- The airline is known to weigh hand luggage if it has wheels or is larger than your typical backpack or purse.
- If you hand luggage is weighed and is over the limit it will need to be checked or items will need to be removed and relocated to your checked luggage.
- Carry-on items do not seemed to be tagged so the gate agents do not know what bags have been checked
- If you hand luggage is weighed and is over the limit it will need to be checked or items will need to be removed and relocated to your checked luggage.
- Checked bags are weighed at the BOB airport for your PPT return flight
- They seem to not be as strict with charging for excess weight
- Lap infants are charged 10%
- Check the minimum connection time. If you arrive early Air Tahiti is likely to move you to an early flight based upon availability free of charge.
- In March 2022 the domestic security was asking that passengers remove and leave any large bottles of liquid from their hand luggage. Sealed duty free alcohol seems to be the exception.
- Tip: Sometimes it is cheaper to pack alcohol and pay the $1.5 per pound excess luggage fee than to purchase duty free at LAX.
Boat Transfer as of April 2022:
- 14,000 XPF per person roundtrip
- Children are free (not sure if there is an age cutoff)
It would be rather difficult to take the free boat from the BOB airport to Vaitape and then take the complimentary shuttle to St Regis. You would need to carry your luggage and time your flights accordingly. This would also need to be coordinated with the property.

101 - Deluxe Over Water Villa w/ view may be renovated

Has anyone gotten a quote for points+cash upgrade to the "Beach Villa"?
Also, years ago when we went, the hotel sent us a list of activities/excursions bookable through the concierge. Do they still do that? I think it was in the same email where we had to supply our flight info so they know when to pick up at the airport.

I specifically requested a quote for Beach Villa upgrade from standard points stay and was quoted 24,300 xpf. Anybody think that’s worth taking? It seems the standard reef villa is much more spacious.

The Reef Villa is not available for two of the nights I'm there, so I'm forced to upgrade to a Beach Villa. But Marriott mistakenly charged me 125,000 Marriott points per night for the upgrade (I was quoted 74,000 points for the upgrade). So if they do not or are unwilling to correct the mistake, I may ask to do a point+cash upgrade instead. It's just not worth the 125K points.

It's not a bad deal, although if a Reef Villa is available personally I don't really see the point of upgrading to Beach Villa for essentially the same thing.

The reservation was made back in September but for some reason Marriott didn’t pull the points at the time even though I had the points. Probably treated it like a points-advance reservation. When they did pull the points a week ago (there was a separate thread about Marriott sweeping through all the points advance reservations) they withdrew more than what was quoted to me originally.

Were you able to find a date where RV was available? I did a quick peruse of cash rates for the year targeting Lowest Price dates and I did not see a RV available for cash. I did not check every day. If there are no rooms available for cash you should not expect an award to be available.

I similarly paid to upgrade a reef villa (booked on points last year) to an overwater villa, which returned a reef villa for 5 nights to their inventory. The hotel was able to see the reef villa go back into inventory (immediately), and they were able to sell it to me as a cash booking, but I was unable to grab it back with points either online or through Marriott/SPG call centers. Was hoping this might be a good way to book multiple rooms on points, but at this time, no dice. Someday, maybe.

I can book award stays here for many dates through November. I don't understand what the fuss is about.
FWIW, SPG almost never allowed award redemptions here--and in those rare instances when they were available, they were astronomically expensive compared to even the new Cat 8 rates that are coming. Like 3-4x what Cat 8 pricing will be. So complaints even for Cat 8 award pricing here seem pretty silly.

I just tried the StR BB and got bookings at 60K points/night for Oct 8-13 and Nov 5-10. Stop searching for only 1 night, perhaps there are minimum night requirements.
