What do you think of Rihga Royal Hiroshima? I have the several preferential treatment tickets for the stockholders. If you are interested in this hotel, please give me an e-mail. ;) http://www.rihga.com/hiroshi/index.html Yasuki |
Many thanks for this info on Sheraton Sapporo. Taking my family there in spring 2007 (Hokkaido is part of my tour - Japan is a country I love and they need to see it, I think) and was contemplating Sheraton because of SPG points and good value, but it really looks poorly located and I am pleased I had my opinion corroborated.

Sapporo Sheraton: How is it?
Have any SPGs stay in this property recently? My old international school has a banquet in this property but unfortunately I never attended one. I usually passed by this as I took the JR to and from Chitose Int'l Airport but this was before I got more into SPG and never really bothered to explore it more. Basic questions being ,how are the rooms, does it have a club floor lounge, and how do they treat Plats? Thanks in advance! :)

The Sheraton is a converted hotel that used to be another hotel, so you have things from small business single rooms that you would find at most Japanese business hotels (usually these are the cheapest priced rooms), rooms with plain decor to larger rooms and rooms with modern decor.
You can navigate their website (in Japanese) but the right menu has some english on it: http://www.sheraton-sapporo.com/stay/index.html You can see the different types of rooms offered with diagrams. The prices listed however are rack rates, but are usually a lot cheaper. I think its a nice property, its only category two, usually participates in Cash & Points promotions, the rates are some of the best for a Starwood property in Japan I've seen. As noted by by JR trains, Its located at ShinSapporo Station (also a Sapporo Subway station), on the same train line that connects the Airport station and Sapporo Station, so it has good access. I guess the con would be its located in ShinSapporo instead of closer to Sapporo center, some 15-20minute train ride away, but thats not a bad commute, thats the same amount it takes just to walk from the Westin Tokyo to the nearest train station just to get around Tokyo. I would refer to the older posts, as I dont think much has changed, some people have given it a bad review because of the small rooms and plastic molded bathrooms, again that stems from that this hotel offeres many different types of rooms, and the cheapest rooms tend to be the standard Japanese business hotel room, which I don't have a problem with for the prices usually offered. Hope that helps. |
I stayed there a couple of weeks ago and was quite satisfied. There is no club lounge. As plat you get breakfast coupons that can be used at either Cafe Dom on the 1st floor or Kamui on the 30th. I've only been to Kamui and it was not bad, as there was a wide selection of Japanese dishes. You also get coupons for Spa Alpa which is a large spa on the basement floor. Oh yes, and they'll usually upgrade you to a junior suite (http://www.sheraton-sapporo.com/stay/r_junior.html). Only 37 sq.m. with a tiny bath/shower/toilet and wide screen TV, but HUGE king bed.
Hope this helps. |
Railroadtycoon & miroqua sum things up pretty well. I agree with their assessments. I’d like to add that the free plat buffet breakfast on the 1st floor was excellent with a great selection of food and the best latte I have had in years. The spa has a great assortment of Japanese baths, steam rooms and sauna. I’d return to the hotel just to play in the water again. :)

Thanks for the help everyone! Indeed one of the major factors in me choosing the Sheraton is it's connectivity when it's just a stone's throw away from the JR station and the Tozai subway line. Looks like I don't have much to worry about then. Again thanks all for the help! :D

Stayed here beginning of October 2008. I'm a bottom-level SPG, whatever that's called, so had no expectations for upgrades or extras.
I found this hotel very comfortable with great views of the city. The room was on one of the SPG floors (27?) and was very nice with comfortable furnishings and adeqate space (this is Japan, remember). There are a Mosburger, Lawson's and 7-11 all within 2 blocks, as well as a local bus station and the afore-mentioned JR and subway stations. There was a McDonald's one block away the first night we stayed there, but "They" came and took it away the second night. (It was just instantly dismatled and turned into an empty building with no identification!) The bakery in the hotel is quite good for breakfast and snacks, also. Although 15 minutes out of downtown Sapporo, it is closer to several things than a downtown hotel: Much closer to Old Hakkaido Open Air Museum, which was my particular interest; much closer to Chitose Airport; and you can catch south-bound trains at Shinsapporo Station, which is what we did--left from there to go to Hakodate without having to go to the main station. Personally, I like staying a little out of the center, as you get to see "real life" going on, rather than just downtown-type activities. One time we took the city bus into downtown, rather than the subway, and it was interesting to see all the buildings and businesses and negihborhoods all the way into downtown. I would stay here again anyway as opposed to a downtown hotel, but especially given the super rate with SPG points and/or Cash Plus Points, I liked this hotel a lot. |
Hello,
Does anybody have any updates on this property? We would like to know the following: -upgrades as a Plat; if so, does the upgraded room have 2 beds (we currently have 1 single bed booked in a regular room) -we'd like to visit some of the hotsprings and wondering if the location close to any of the hotsprings; -other Plat benefits Thanks in advance! |
Stayed here a couple of weeks ago on Cash and Points to goto the Sapporo Snow Festival. This hotel is another Japanese business hotel set up for business men.
Got upgraded to a deluxe room as a Gold member and late checkout to 4 pm. For some unknown reason they never told me I was upgraded but I'd done a bit of research before on the room types so was aware of the upgrade. I can confirm this room had great views of the city. Overall the experience was good. I somehow mistook this hotel for being in Sapporo but rather it was in Shin Sapporo which as mentioned before isn't far outside of Sapporo (8 min by train and about 260 yen each way max) I don't think my gf will ever forgive me as we're walking around Sapporo trying to find the hotel only to be told we're many kms away from it. Breakfast on the ground floor was average at best. The hot food was cold however the omelet making lady was awesome. They don't stock any apple juice. When i was eating breakfast a girl next to me was being interviewed for a job which was a bit bizarre. My girlfriend really wanted to try the Japanese restaurant which probably would have been a better bet if you're after fish in the morning. The hotel is quite old and our sink had many chips in it and the wall paper was starting to peel in some places however other than that the room was what i expected. The room service menu is dead after 10 or so pm. It's seriously terrible. Cup noddles is about it. |

I can't seem to find anything for this hotel paid or points from spg.com on any random dates throughout the year. Phone reps claim that it's sold out....really? Or is this property leaving Starwood? Any ideas?
