I haven't stayed there but I did stay across the river at the Gerbermühle Design Hotel recently and as long as you have a car I would think the Moxy would be a functional basic alternative considering the cost. I would not stay there (or the Gerbermühle) without a car and if I wanted to visit the city as a tourist to shop and for sightseeing.

Hey, yeah, the hotel is nice enough if you need a bed, shower and bathroom. The staff is super-friendly and they have the typical Moxy bar.
Keep in mind, that this is a Moxy, but I think it's quite a nice one.
Location is not the best if you like to stroll around at night (no, it's not unsafe, it's just not so interesting to walk around in the area).
There's a tram that runs to the city center from a stop close to the hotel.

apologies for cross posting as i've asked this question in the starwood frankfurt thread as well but i'm also posting here since i'm sure there are a number of people here who may have stayed in all or most of the properties mentioned below....
have an upcoming trip to frankfurt in a few months with my family....there will be 4 of us in total (my wife, myself & our 2 toddler sons)....i have been to frankfurt a few times before but my last trip was almost 15 years ago so i'm sure a lot has changed since then....
i'm considering one of the following hotels for our 4 night trip:
moxy frankfurt city center - i have a brg/lnf rate for €80 a night but the room size looks small & i'm not sure if it will be able to accommodate all 4 of us....
moxy frankfurt east - family room is available here for €85 a night but i'm not sure about the location....
westin grand frankfurt - have a brg/lnf rate for €92.62 a night....i've also attached suite night here for either the westin grand suite or the duplex suite....the location seems good although we aren't really looking to shop....
le méridien frankfurt - have a brg/lnf rate for €75.90 a night....attached suite nights for a junior suite....i've been reading some reviews about the location not being the best since its close to the train station but i stayed at another property in this area during my last trip to frankfurt many years ago & didn't mind the location at all....
for those who have stayed at these properties, which one would you recommend????

As noted on the SPG master thread, I am a big fan of the Westin Frankfurt where I stayed twice in 2018 after much research. They have some large regular rooms that will accommodate families (mine had a small twin and a king, even though I was traveling alone) and the hotel is very central to everything. I can't speak to the others.

Sheraton Frankfurt Airport
We had a morning flight out of Frankfurt so opted to stay the night before at the Sheraton airport. Easy access from the train station and attached to the airport. Because it was Dec. 26, rates were quite low (85 EU per night). Because we paid with Visa card, breakfast was included.
Check in was easy and very polite. He surprised us with tickets for two free drinks in the bar as a Christmas gift.
The hotel room was normal business style hotel room. Clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable.
The drink tickets applied to beer, wine or cocktails. They were good.
Breakfast was huge with many items to choose from.
We felt this was an excellent value as the room rate was probably similar to what drinks and breakfast would have come to. All staff were encountered were very polite and spoke English.
So very convenient to get to your flight in the morning. Note: It is in terminal 1 and international flights are terminal 2 so you still must shuttle bus or tram over.

New MClub at Frankfurt Marriott - dreadfully dark
I was long-term customer of this hotel (approx 140 stays last year) and came back to the hotel after a year long break.
Waking up on a glorious sunshine morning, I had to realize that they have closed the old Executive Lounge and I that I had to visit the M Club.
Whilst I know the concept from the US and I am ok with it, I am dreading the one in Frankfurt: a windowless lounge on the ground floor with dark, grim lightning.
Who the hell had the idea to put the lounge on the ground floor of a high-rise building? Absolutely no interest to spend there more than 5min for breakfast.
I mean, come on.....

Hello - yes you'll get a voucher for the Brasserie restaurant (cant remember the exact name) where the main breakfast is offered.

Just a note to update (correct) this. Long haul flights do also depart from Terminal 1. I have used this hotel when flying with LH and UA and it was convenient to just walk across to the terminal.

the Marriott is in the centre of Frankfurt - I think you are talking about the Sheraton FFM airport or the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport?
Btw, I always enjoyed the Sheraton when I was LHR based but had projects in Cologne and Frankfurt - no better commute with the ICE station below.....

As I have stayed at the Sheraton FRA Airport, Westin, and Marriott (DT) this week, I thought I would mention that I really liked all three. Despite that, I can probably still rank them:
- Westin Grand - super comfortable, lovely bi-level suite upgrade, better pancakes than the Marriott at breakfast
- Marriott - better evening lounge service, still very comfortable, amazing shower pressure, preferred the location of the Westin
- Sheraton - great, but it's at the airport
