Effective Jan 20, 2014, this property has a $25 resort fee. (might be $20 for Marriott elites based on one report).

From the website: Daily resort fee of 25 added to room rate includes in-room Internet, theme park shuttle, resort activities and more! No details on the resort activities & more on the website, although a FTer reported yoga classes.
Self-parking is $18/day & valet is $25/day. Some reports of elites getting parking waived; can't hurt to ask.

Updated July 2017, as per hotel website, resort fee is $35 and parking $25/day for self-park and $32/day for valet.

Wonderful hotel

I stayed at the Grand Lakes last Christmas. Wonderful service, automatic upgrade to a suite without even asking. I strongly recommend this hotel!

Cool Updated trip report/ JW Orlando Lakes

My wife and I checked into this JW this past tuesday for a two night stay. I had called the day before and asked about the possibilities of an upgrade....and was told "no problem"; however, upon arrival, the desk clerk told me that there were only two rooms available in the hotel that I could have...this was at 2 in the afternoon. I told him that I found that hard to believe and let him know that we would be willing to wait (since I was 1 hour ahead of the official check in time) to see if something might open up. His reply was, again, there are only two rooms available that I can give you. After a minute or so of asking why, etc, I gave up; furstrated and not wanting to make a jerk of myself in front of my wife, I let her take over. Believe it or not, a suite and an ajoining sleeping room appeared. Maybe the real issue was that I wasn't paying the "right" rate; we were there on a AAA of $129/night and was using a $100 Bonus Buck which I presented on check in.

Rooms are some what-small, but with a balcony overlooking the pool, a nice view. About 40% of rooms have balconys. The Bathroom is large, with a separate marble shower and separate tub. Coffee maker, hairdryer, robes, etc. are there for the use.

The ajoining suite (two bay) was great: wet bar, (no refrige in the missing space), two couches, and four easy chairs and of course, another bath room.

The pool area is large, the "load" capacity noted at the pool area is 1500+ people...with a "lazy river" feature that connects three pool areas. Buy a tube for $5 to float on. The "river" is only 3 1/2 ft. deep and contrairy to other posts, it does not rival a water park. Pool side restaurant "Quench" serves lunches and has a full bar, too...food is more than adequate.

"Primo" is the JW's top tier restaurant here; we dined there the first evening; its a 9.5!...our favorite in Orlando is still Atlantis at the Ren...where the music is live rather than MUSAK style at Primo. The food and service at Primo is tops! Expect about $100-125 per couple for app's, entre, a glass of wine, coffee, and tip....and no regrets!

Citrion is the "coffee shop" where a great breakfast buffet is served...albetit somewhat pricey...$17 for the full, and $13 for the "healthy start"....tons of fresh fruit...only thing missing was non fat yougurt.

Upon checking in, the Plat gift choices are somewhat standard...wine, cheese, etc, with an option of 1000 MR points or 1 visit for 2 in Citrion for the Healthy Start. Personally, I think that the breakfast option should be for at least for two days like the World Center. There is no lounge at either JW or World Center.

The parking here is so-so, this property is "the destination" so there is not many drive in's like myself. Lots of meeting/conventions things going on. The GM told me that in the summer, they get so many people arriving by cars, that they have had to go to another "gravel" lot. The standard self park lot holds less than 250 cars! at $7 plus tax per night; valet is $15.

The lobby here is huge with beautiful flower/plant arrangements.

Expect Macroon cookies and ice tea while waiting to check in; not many on the front desk.

There is H.S.(Wired STSN) in the room @ 9.95 a day, UGH! but if you want, you can go to the business center and hook up to theirs for only 69 cents a minute (WAIT..thats $41.40 an hour!!!!) This is not a place to work out of or from, its a vacation spot....bring money. My wife loved it.

Thanks for the great report, jnbinpvb.....appreciate the helpful info.

Just FYI, although I am sure you know it already, the rate you got is virtually the best available rate that I've seen this hotel at since it opened. (I came close to staying here in late July under the same $129 rate with the Bonus Bucks coupon as well, but I had more people than the room would accomodate, and ended up going with a 2 br 2 ba villa at Cypress Harbour....but would have like to try this location also.)

Funny how that upgrade opened up.....let your wife do the checking in from now on

Finally stayed at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes this weekend and had an awesome experience.

We used points for a 2 night stay (55,000) in lieu of spending the $269/nt which was the best available rate for October. A few days before, I noticed our reservation was now comfirmed for a "Lake Golf View", and although it seemed to be an upgraded view, I was hoping for a possible upgrade to a suite.

Upon arriving, we were greeted and escorted through the beautiful lobby to the front desk where Platinum status was noted and appreciated. The front desk clerk said we had been upgraded to a King Executive Suite on the 24th floor.

The suite was beautiful, with a view overlooking the pool, golf course, neighboring Ritz Carlton, and nearby Sea World. At night, we were able to clearly see a huge fireworks display in the distance (I believe the one we saw was from Universal, but this room would also have afforded us views of the Disney and Sea World fireworks shows as well.)

The staff at this location could not have been nicer, more pleasant or accomodating. You can tell when you walk into this hotel that it is a cut above the usual. The hotel did not seem crowded at all during the day, and the pool and common areas were almost too quiet. At night, it was busier.

We ate dinner at Citron, which the hotel describes as a "brasserie", however I found it to be a bit more upscale than that. Prices were very fair. They offered two wine specials, all you could drink for either $8 or $12 depending on the level of wine chosen. Although we chose the $8 level, the two waiters kindly poured us the higher levels of wine, noting that they were much finer selections.

Although we didn't order room service, I found the room service menu to also be well-priced.

They have some great "extras", like a horse-drawn carriage ride through the property, outdoor fireplace going every night, decent (and potent) drink deals by the pool, and some amazing menus and activities planned for the upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years).

This property was somewhat reminiscent of the style of the Atlantis in the Bahamas (on a much smaller scale), however with none of the crowds or over-the-top trappings.

This may be one of the nicest Marriotts we've ever stayed in and I've already made reservations to return.

It is fabulous to get these updated reviews, my husband and I toured the marriott/ritz facilty last march while in Orlando. I felt that if we returned to the area this would be the place to stay.

One important item forgotten is the lovely spa shared by the Ritz and The JW.

Great faciltiy and property.

JW Grande Lakes Orlando - Platinum Comments

Hi,

Has anyone stayed at this property yet? Seriously considering it for 4th July -I know it is relatively new, and it looks beautiful.

I know there is no Concierge Level - yet, the pool pix look great.

Any comments would be very much appreciated.

I haven't actually stayed there, but have driven by numerous times. It is a beautiful property. You probably know they share grounds with a Ritz. They have a beautiful golf course that has real caddie service. I'm confident the rooms are very nice. Sorry I can't give you more, but perhaps that's better than nothing.

If that falls through, the Renaissance Resort at Sea World is a nice option. They have a decent Concierge level, and it's a very nice hotel. Location-wise, you can walk to Sea World, and it's pretty close to the other attractions as well.

Have fun!

Just stayed there for 2 nights. No con floor but they comped me to an exec suite as a Platinim and went out of their way to welcome me. Very nice properity but a little removed.

Just stayed at the Ritz - hard to believe but it was cheaper

All grounds are shared in common and are gorgeous - service at the Ritz was impeccable. I wanted water - so the delivered water bottles (for free) to the room - along with a bucket of ice.

Its those little touches

Absolutely love the JW. It's one of our favorite properties in the states. The service is outstanding and we love the pools. We got a nice upgrade. I've stayed at the Ritz next door but actually prefer the JW. Enjoy your stay!

Ok, sorry for the short answer last night, freeup...busy week, kids finishing school and all

this hotel is gorgeous, and if you are going to Orlando and want the best, this is it. The grounds are impeccably maintained and the staff was warm, welcoming and friendly. The access between the JW and the Ritz is unimpeded and both properties are of a very high standard. (Jan, I've noticed that sometimes the JW and Ritz are very close in price as well....darnit that the Ritz stay doesn't give Marriott points or Plat recognition, nor does it take the Bonus Bucks ) The pool areas were gorgeous and I was lucky enough to be there at what I guess was a slow time because there was never a crowd anywhere. If you golf, this would be a perfect location.

freeup, I know how you love to gravitate towards tropical beauty, and while this isn't Hawaii, this location won't disappoint you. The rooms are gorgeous and the restaurants and room service were not ridiculously out of line price-wise.

I have a reservation here for mid July under the Family Package (two adjoining rooms for $348 per night) and I am really looking forward to revisiting this great hotel.

Check out their website at www.grandelakes.com, as they have specials over the 4th of July weekend that include a BBQ, concert and fireworks show.

Have a great time.

We were there over Memorial Day weekend and the place was practically sold out. We stayed on points except for the last day. We had to adjust our dates a little a month before the trip and the only way we could even book the room on the last day was through the Platinum guarantee. It is a wonderful property with great customer service. The loby is beautiful! The pool is very nice with the lazy river. Even when there are a lot of people it does not seem too crowded. Our room was great with a wonderful view of the pool and golf course.

I had some spa treatments at the Ritz. They were expensive but really nice. We recently purchased a Marriott time share so we took the tour at Grande Lakes just to compare the Orlando properties with what we have. The units were lovely and we learned a few things. Best of all we got a $100 Marriott check to use at check out. Since we also had $100 Bonus Bucks it turned out to be a very luxurious vacation without the matching price tag.

I will certainly return to Grande Lakes anytime I am in Orlando.
