Sounds like the Sheraton payment system is not converted to the Marriott payment system?

Would love to know how the eventual outcome is. We have stays at Perth in Sept and I plan to use the Marriott gift cards to bypass the CC surcharges.

Lucky you got nice upgrade during Vivid Sydney time and amenities sent to your room. Last Nov we got a small upgrade to a corner room facing the park but never receive any amenity sent to room but at check in they did show us 3 options of the welcome gift - one of them was the stuffed animals that no doubt were made in China, and retailed here at drugstore for $3 a piece at most.... The restaurant breakfast is such a no brainer that I assume 99% of the guests would pick this option.

The Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast took 2 weeks to process my gift cards, so it can be done. The Melbourne Marriott knew exactly how to do it, but it took several minutes of typing to process each gift card, so I suspect it's just Marriott's 1990s IT that is the roadblock.

Read my review of the Westin Perth to see how that turned out for me!

I suspect that my upgrade may have been due to the fact that they weren't able to process my gift cards in April either in spite of my giving them 2 days notice before check out to figure it out. I had been emailing back and forth with the same Duty Mgr.

Recently had a two night stay here over the Queen's birthday weekend. The hotel appeared totally overwhelmed with the volume of people and so I don't think that I had a representative stay.

For my first time in Sydney I booked a City View (more expensive than a Park View) but was "upgraded" to a Park View with Club Access. I guess this is a technical upgrade as bad Club Rooms are better than good non-Club rooms on paper, but for me this was obviously again a case of me not getting useful preferences. The room was quite small and only had a small window in the corner which faced into the building and so felt quite claustrophobic. It was next to some kind of cleaning room which hadn't been sound-proofed and so for much of the day it was very loud with staff talking, moving around and banging stuff.

I didn't spend much time in the public areas of the hotel as they were overrun due to the holiday. There were no bellboys when I turned up to help me with baggage or to direct me to reception, 50+ people would be at the check-in at a time, the lounge was so busy they opened up an over-flow on the bottom floor and the pool had groups of un-supervised children diving in the shallow end and shrieking at the top of their voices. I initially retreated to the jacuzzi but then got kicked in the shin so went back up to my room.

I can only assume that the hotel has more gracious service at normal times, and presume that Ambassador guests are not normally stuck in such a bad room but nonetheless I think I'll try the Marriott next time.

Park view is very much more expensive that City View. 'City View' means you look onto Castlereagh street and David Jones. The rooms receive little natural light.

Does anyone have an email address to contact the hotel? Heading there in just over a week and want to try to arrange some things.

NP. Someone actually found a way to look up email addresses for all properties. Takes a few minutes, but it works. Check the wiki here.

Great stay but Mariott IT is a mess

Sheraton on the Park

159-161 Elizabeth Street Sydney, NW AU 2000

Great stay but Mariott IT is a mess (5 Photos)

Sheraton on the Park

Returned for my second stay since the refurb and rebrand of the property.

Last week, Sydney hotels were all full and the remaining rooms were $950 for a Grand Executive Park View toom. Managed to score cash + points for 35,000 points and $140 which I jumped on.

Check In

We arrived at 3:30PM and the lines were huge at reception. The elite line was unmanned.

I asked the Concierge to check in at the lounge and he promptly produced a key that would allow access to Level 21 and entry to the lounge.

Got to the lounge who were setting up the evening service and asked to be checked in. The attendant responded "You'll have to go downstairs" and I explained I wanted to check in at the lounge. She was a bit short as she was busy, but she called and told us it would be 10-15 mins.

We poured ourselves some Sparkling water at a table and waited.

Eventually someone came to check us in but the computer wouldn't let him log in. He and another staff member tried for 15 mins with to no avail. "Ugh, Mariott" I overhead him say...

He apologised and escorted me back downstairs to check in where he took me to the empty elite desk. He told me that the guest in the room we were blocked had just checked out and the room would take 30-40 mins to clean. He did offer a room on the 6th floor, but I specifically request higher floors for Harbour views. He offered a bottle of wine which I declined as I said "We don't drink wine." Hilariously, he thought he offended me because of my background and I clarified "We prefer Champagne or cocktails." He saw it was my partner's birthday and said he would arrange a cake.

We returned to the lounge, he delivered the keys in around 30 mins.

I did note lots of guests in the lounge being told there rooms weren't ready well past 4:30PM...

Room

The hotel had blocked a room on the 20th floor which had specactular views. It also benefits form having two top suites on either sight side of the floor meaning foot traffic is at a minimum.

The downside, however, was we were directly below the lounge so could hear furniture being moved and breakfast being setup in the morning.

Dining

Once again this property remains in my second best club lounge experience in the World.

The evening service includes fresh Prawns, Oysters, Sushi, Dumplings, Prawn fried rice, sandwhiches, dips, cheeses and desserts.

We had to explain what a Moscow Mule was to the staff, however the agent who was previously curt to us when trying to check in redeemed himself by being much friendlier and making incredible cocktails.

We knew to grab a table 30 mins prior to service because afterwards the lounge was completely packed.

The staff were proactive in offering neew rounds of drinks and clearing plates.

Breakfast the next morning was ok. The only Eggs offered in the lounge were scrambeld, poached or Fried, no Omlettes, but it sufficed.

Service

We checked out from the lounge and while the computer was working the agent did not know "how to charge cash and points." I had to pull out the email to show him the cash component. Checkout took 20 mins which was annoying.

As it turns out, the hotel charged me twice. Not a preauth and final charge but two charges for the same amount that I am not chasing as a refund

Overall

Overall, the property is still a solid option but the Mariott IT is clearly failing.

Great stay but Mariott IT is a mess

Would you like to write a review on the Sheraton on the Park?

No, thank you.

Has anyone stayed in a "Grand Executive Terrace" room? Like the above poster, I jumped on a points plus cash (+$200) for three nights when the base rate was very high ($400-$500, meaning the room we got was around $600-$700). For the life of me can't find anyone who has reviewed this specific sort of room. I imagine it is like the Executive Park View but with a terrace? Looking forward regardless. I am only Gold Elite so this seemed like the right move to not get stuck in a darker room with no view, and have club access and a balcony to boot.

I was in a terrace suite in May. Much like the regular suites but with 2 small balconies (one off the living room and one off the bedroom). It was too cold to enjoy them when we were there. I think there may have been chairs on one of the balconies.

The Terrace Room is a not a suite. Once upon a time the only rooms with balconies were the former Terrace Suites with the two balconies. I think they are now 'DeluxeTerrace Suites.'

The hotel made these rooms smaller making Terrace Rooms (bedroom with terrace) and smaller Terrace Suites. The originals remake the Deluxe Terrace Suites.

Indeed, this is not a suite as advertised. Sounds like we'll be jammed next to other balconies? Still nice to have the view I guess. Has anyone stayed in one yet?
