SPG top page:
"The Executive Floors offer the discriminating traveler unparalleled services and facilities including the Executive Butler Service and the Sheraton Club Lounge."
Their own hotel page also mentions it.

If you've stayed at the Sheraton Hong Kong, the room quality is similar.
The Sheraton Taipei is clean, very well maintained and delivers excellent service - I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

The words were there after the 2005 major renovation. It made a day and night difference before 2005 and after 2005. There has not been any real renovation since then, but I do not think the statement is completely invalid.

Just checked in again in Sheraton Taipei. As a platinum member, most of the time I stayed in this propoerty got upgraded to the Executive floor or suite, but this time, they pre-allocated me to a standard room on the SPG floor (the lowest SPG floor which I made a request that I always prefer rooms at higher floor). The check in staff said the amenities have been upgraded to the "Platinum standard", which I found it was no upgrade at all.....
A bit disappointed as I stayed more than 30 nights already in this property in 2013, would expect a bit more.....

Stayed here over Christmas for 2 nights on Cash and points
Was upgraded to Director Room (basically junior suite but living room area is in front of bed...not a separate room)
Checked in at about 6pm. The receptionist told me about club lounge benefits (platinum member) and told me to have my dinner up there. I was thinking dinner ?
Holy .......true enough, the evening hot food was sufficient for dinner. There was bread, salad, soup, dumplings, beef, chicken, stir fried vegetables, Taiwanese soup noodle, Taiwanese pork rice, and desserts (cakes and fruits).
I saw the SQ airline crew having their dinner there on Christmas Eve too, where they served lobster bisque and roast turkey!
Hotel building is old but the rooms are refurbed. If it was refurbed a few years ago, then I must say they had done a great job maintaining it clean
Club lounge ladies' staff are excellent, friendly, helpful and informative.

Room Upgrade - lounge access?
SPG Members or William Sanders,
Looking to stay at the Sheraton Taipei from 04/20 to 04/25 for 5 nights. I know this requires 48000 spg points using 4 nights, 5th night free. Was wondering how many more points would be required and would the upgraded room include lounge access? TIA!

William,
Thank you for your reply. Would you be so kind as to check on the Westin Taipei for me? For the same dates for 5 nights - how many points for a room upgrade and would it include club or lounge access. Thanks again and have a great weekend!

At the moment, only Specialty upgrade award rooms are available for your travel dates. It would cost 54,000 Starpoints for 5 nights (5th night free). This is a Premier room type and does not include lounge access.

Wouldn't it be easier for you to call reservation for question like this? William is not a reservation agent.

You're correct. I did have regrets after posting. Happy to take it down. And like all FTers, really appreciate William's contributions to the community. Will take my question to SPG directly =P. No need to reply William.

Another nice stay at the Sheraton Grande Taipei
We stayed at the Sheraton Grande Taipei four years ago and were glad to see it is as good as ever. The food and service in the Club Lounge is great! We had roasted chicken and mashed potatoes one evening amongst other hot food dishes. We even liked having breakfast in the Club Lounge over the buffet breakfast downstairs, as being Plat, both were complimentary. Plat benefits were good. Upgraded to a suite but not in the same wing as the Club Lounge. Nice location near train station, near downtown, and on a subway line.

As a SPG Plat, I must say there are great options in Taipei, and all the Starwood Properties there are very good.
While food offerings in Sheraton Taipei's Club Lounge is very good (probably the best among the SPGs), but I had to fight incredibly hard to get my upgrades in Sheraton Taipei, which I hope not to be the case in my next visit to Taipei in future.
If the upgrade is to a Director's Room, this is good enough for me. Diplomatic Suite is of course even better. Let's hope the upgrades will be more consistent and not needing Plats to fight for it.
On the other hand, I had really fantastic Suite upgrades (beyond standard suite once!) at Westin Taipei & Le Meridien Taipei is very nice as well, and I got a Junior Suite upgrade there without fuss. W Taipei is my favorite city-based W in Asia at the moment, and if you score a Suite in W Taipei, it is really outstanding. I have no complaints about Westin and Le Meridien's Lounges as well, as Westin serves a good number of hot dishes and daily soup pot, and I remember Le Meridien also having a daily soup pot, and a good range of drinks, including the very nice Taiwan Beer (Gold medal). (but do go out and eat at night in Taipei - the Night Markets' scene in Taipei is a highlight.)
Sheraton Taipei is the most dated among the Starwood properties. But if one managed to score an upgrade is to a Director's room or Diplomatic Suite, then I would might just be best value among the 4 properties. (Westin could be extremely good value too if you managed to get a good rate.)
