Las Vegas Renaissance [Master Thread]
 

Rode the new LV monorail today. Picked up a station map and was surprise to see a "Marriott Renaissance" listed. It's on Paradise Rd just south of the convention center. The building is about half way finished.

I am VERY interested in staying at this property over the Christmas Holidays.
They show soft opening in Decmber-but are only aceppting ressies for January!
The opening rates are OK-you can do cheaper nicer on xmas,If I call them direct will they make a deal?

This will certainly open up Vegas for the MR crowd with the monorail getting you to the strip, much easier than the current Marriott offerings. I am anxious to see a trip report.

So Has anybody stayed here yet?
I just booked 2 night over christmas for $129-sunday the 26 jumped $100 which is wierd because that is a VERY slow period in Las vegas and does not usually pick up till december 30th.

Be very careful about counting on the monorail....I just got back from Vegas and the monorail is closed right now but they say it should be online again soon...maybe by new years.

I just got an email from the venetian and they are offering a promo rate of 129 over christmas weekend... I would say that 129 for that weekend at the renn would be high given its location and the likely lack of monorail that weekend.

Just gpt back from a weekend stay at the Las Vegas Renaissance.
Very nice property in need of guest!They are going to survive mainly on biz from the convention center which is right next door-this is a very convienent full service hotel for conventioners-esp those on an expense account!
Staff was VERY friendly and eager to serve-very un-vegas feel to the service here.
Checkin was easy,staff is pretty green and still in training mode.Asked for an upgrade and was given a room with a view on a high floor(was hoping for a junior suite at least as they were on 25% occupied-no such luck)bonus buck was accepted,and got credit on my MR card for the whole amount of rev.at checkout.
Room was very nice,standard size,very stylish without being boring-unlike most W's which I find boring,the last two Renaissances I have steayed at have struck just the right balance of stylishness and practicality.Greens,oranges,earthtones,and white were the colors used here.
Bed was a delight,a firm pillow top high of the ground.
My only qualm were the bedside lights.They were too tall and too bright.They need to put some 3 way bulbs or rheosats on them.
Bathroom was a very generous size.Seperate glass shower and bathtub,very nice linens and toiletries.One very cool feature was all the lights in the bathroom were on a dimmer-very nice.
Very stylish and very empty restaurant and bar-prices are way to high for those not on an expense account,I did not dine here.
Monorail was functioning-and was free!It was a convenience If the hotels you wanted to visit were on the line-otherwise it was a pain.
All inall-The Renaissance las vegas id a very un-vegasy stylish hotel and I would stay there again.

Does it have a casino?

No-there is no casino in any of the Marriott properties.The JW and the RC lease out space to casino operators but have nothing to do with the casinos.

Any pool? If so, how is it - resort style or more like a business hotel?

There is a small but nice pool in a sheltered courtyard in the center of the hotel.You will have to switch lounges to keep up with the sun,and you will feel like a goldfish in a fishbowl on display.

Just checked out of this property.

Over a 4 night stay I had MULTIPLE problems.

Granted there's a convention in town which meant 100% occupancy however, knowing this I believe the hotel should have been prepared.

Firstly let me say the actual property is pretty cool. Kind of W ish but without the dark colors.

My problems:

4 visits by engineering to fix pluming issues in the suite (a nice suite BTW XX30)
Cool flat panel TV's that worked 50% of the time
Bulb out in one lamp. Reported but never replaced.

2 hour wait for room service delivery on 3 occasions
No gift shop
No coffee stand
Even though the web site says free parking there was a $20 charge
Extensive valet parking lines
Only 1 restaurant which was closed one lunch time for a private party (add the frustration of a 2 hour room service wait) (good food BTW when it was open nut expensive)
A $10 per box delivery charge by the bell desk for packages I had shipped to myself
Internet connect unavailable for 1 day (although it is free when it works)
No good instruction on how to plug into internet (it's a direct wall connection, no box)
No iron in the room
My suite had a great view however on my 2nd day the hotel put a huge sign on the side of the building. I could stiill see out but it was thru a mesh
They started putting this sign up at 6:30am with a lot of banging
ZERO signs of house keeping (Had to call to get the rooms made up)
No paper outside the room on Sat or Sun
No bill under the door on check out day
3 calls to room service and 1 to the operator to have room service trays removed. Finally pushed everything outside the room and 3 hours later it was gone.
No phone in the living room of the suite
No trash can in the living room of the suite
All this for over $1000 a night!

Wow! That's a long list of problems - I'll be checking into this hotel tomorrow night. If I can get internet access while in LAS (I don't have a laptop, so it depends on how much the business center costs...), I'll post my experiences here.

I'm looking forward to this stay!

Priceline just added 4 star bidding to the convention center zone in vegas... this is most likely the new renaissance...for those so inclined to bidding, this might be the way to go to try this place out if in vegas
