The current destination fee ($30 as of 2 Sept 2023) includes, per night:
  • 1 draft beer
  • 1 old fashion
  • 1 dessert (e.g., cookies)
  • free wi-fi

Fulfillment comes in form of coupons for each item, and you can redeem as many as you want.

Making more money.on captive audiences.... Was forced to pay the same at Bally's 3 years ago and didn't need or use anything. I imagine they all jumped on the bandwagon.

While you may not like the fee, I am not sure why you are "puzzled."

It includes the following:

Destination amenity fee of $23.50 per day applies; fee includes 50 minute daily fitness class (yoga, stretch, cardio), high speed internet access, valet parking, Kona Craft Beer from Sammy's Daily, complimentary dessert & elite choice amenity of cheese, fruit or 1,000 Marriott Rewards points.
Services & Amenities at Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel

And given that self parking is listed @ $35/day, this fee can be a good deal if you have a car.

I've presumed that by "LV" you mean Las Vegas.

The answer is that the fee means exactly what it says it means. You will pay it above the room rate and it has nothing to do with whether you want the underlying services, most of which are services which would generally be included or nobody wants. In addition, in most US jurisdictions, the fee will also be taxed.

Welcome to the modern Las Vegas hotel scene. They almost all charge resort fees as a method of increasing their room rate without having to increase the advertised price. I had thought the Marriott properties other than the not-actually-a-Marriott Cosmopolitan had avoided this so far but apparently it's making its way in. $23.50 is actually on the low end of resort fees in LV.

There really should be a requirement that any mandatory fees imposed by the hotel should be included in the advertised room rate. The FTC had been working with various states' Attorneys General but has backed off since a new anti-regulation president took office.

I agree with you that it's confusing. The $35 parking charge is listed separately. There's another thread on this property (or maybe it was just a Las Vegas thread) that had a recent comment that the parking is not charged separately. If so, the hotel needs to correct their website.
I was just looking at this property because my husband has a 2-night stay in Vegas coming up. After looking at all the options, he's staying in a Courtyard - he just didn't want to deal with the resort fee BS and parking hassles.

It is pretty typical in Vegas, but them calling it a 'Destination Amenity Fee' is pretty unique since every other hotel pretty much calls it a resort fee. The link provided is a good list since they range from $15-$39+tax.. I am currently staying at a 'comped' room but still paying $45 a night... which is still a good deal and hard to find in any other city. But definitely a long way from the way it used to be.

And generally speaking this fee isn't comped for elite members, as far as I know. At the casinos higher tiers of their player programs do get the comp.

I am a MR LT Plat. I stayed here for two nights in April. The resort/destination fee never came up at check-in, so I asked the FD associate about it, to avoid any check-out issues, and he responded that he waived it the moment he saw my status, without my asking.

Also, the parking valets were severely back-up when I arrived, so I used the self-parking deck, at no charge. It is only about a one minute walk from the main lobby to the garage elevators.

I am puzzled as the the cost for parking is also listed in addition to the Amenity Fee.

I am glad I am not the only one confused! Thank you for your helpful response. I have stayed at the Courtyard for the same reasons as your husband in the past, but for my next stay the Ren is cheaper even with the Amenity Fee.

Hopefully they will do the same for me, thanks for the info.

After several stays this year, I still have not been charged the destination fee. It appears to be waived for Plats/PP.

The $35 "parking fee" seems to be levied on outside visitors who use the garage during a convention next door. Parking charge is already included for guests in the destination fee. Most hotels in Las Vegas now have a parking charge.

I was a platinum and stayed there last November. I had to pay the fee. I'll stay again in November this year. Let's see what happens.

Same, I stayed in April and asked them to waive it and they did...no hassle at all.

Has the wording on the amenity fee just changed?

Please note - USD 23.50 daily destination amenity fee added to room rate incl 2 one-way monorail passes, one Kona draft beer and more.
This Link still shows the previous wording.

Did you get free wi-fi and parking (if you drove)?
