Halifax Marriott Harbourfront, NS, Canada [Master Thread]

I recently (as in an hour ago) completed a stay at the Halifax Marriott - for many use cases, I think this is probably the best option in Halifax. It definitely got most of the basics right. Here are my impressions and photos:

Note on Upgrade: I had a bit of a kerfuffle with my room
assignment. I was upgraded to a Signature Suite before arrival. When I arrived around 4 PM, I was told that the assigned room 544 wasn’t ready and that I could either wait or take an Executive Suite 344. I had no idea that 344 looked into the indoor pool and had no outdoor exposure (544 would have). It also wasn’t a suite - just a triangle-shaped room with a couch (which does appear to match the online photos of these “suites.”) I received a call a few minutes after asking to wait for 544 (as it would have had some outside view) that a better suite had opened up from maintenance. I don’t know what room type I ended up with, but it was definitely better with a good layout and harbour view.

Pros:
  • Cozy design - a bit dark, but it feels warm and comfortable inside
  • Bed is great - very plush mattress, plush pillows, plush enough covers
  • Shower pressure is good and strong
  • Couch was comfortable
  • Nice welcome gift of yummy sweets
  • Did not partake in evening service - but the desserts looked good
  • M Club breakfast is great - you order à la carte and the salmon Benedict was yummy and free!
  • Offered late checkout - able to get requested 1 PM

Cons:
  • Not much

I would come back.

Good choice.

Great property and review! I’ve stayed here many times in the past 25 years, it’s an amazing property, always confortable and quiet. Very difficult to fault the property, the new M Lounge is excellent.
However, I’m a such a fan of historical properties, so while the Marriott is nice and probably the nicest in Halifax other than the Muir, the Westin Nova Scotian is my favorite property in Halifax, just because in my case, it is. :)

Note: the Westin Nova Scotian is coming with a full renovation in 2026-2027, or so I’m told.

How’s the location? Staying in Halifax in July for a couple days (vacation with family) and currently have the Delta booked but could be persuaded to change.

Assuming you mean the Delta Halifax (rather than Dartmouth), the Delta is all of 2 blocks (5 min walk) from the Marriott. The Marriott is right on the harbor but the Delta is closer to the fort.

The Westin is in a nice area, a lil more residential than the Delta and Marriott. You can walk from the Westin to the Marriott via the waterfront boardwalk. It’s nice walk.
It all depends on what you want to visit and how much walking you want to do, Halifax is very hilly and steep, be prepared to walk. I know Halifax very well and have a good knowledge of all Bonvoy hotels in Halifax. Just ask away.

I recently stayed at the new Delta Halifax Downtown and was slightly disappointed; staff was nice, the renovation was nice, but they haven’t finished everything yet, the restaurant and pantry was meh. I don’t think the Westin or the Marriott should be worried at all at the moment.
I don’t plan or returning, I’m just too happy with my usuals spots. Nothing here stands out. The restaurants at both the Westin and the Marriott are in a different league compared to the Delta as well.
