Marriott points expiration after transfer
 
We received a significant point transfer after my mother-in-laws death. The points were received August 31st. We then booked a hotel night with some of those points Sept 1st (stay was Sept 26). Now I'm logging in to make further travel plans for December only to discover all the remaining points expired Sept 11th. No reason provided. I'm speculating that perhaps they were still attached to her account and expired due to her lack of account activity, but if so, isn't this information they should have provided us upon transferring the points?? We would have no way to know the expiration date, if this is the case.
Has anyone else experienced this or know the policy?

Presuming that the transfer was initiated by Bonvoy then you should be in an ok situation to recover. If they were "self-initiated" I guess that something else could have happened, so you're best following the formal route with death certificate via the Marriott T&Cs (and the helpful lurker): (as referenced in the FAQ) https://help.marriott.com/s/article/Article-22910

Just for clarification, was the Bonvoy account the points were transferred into an active account with an existing points balance ?
