First try at a Moxy (will be at the Le Meridian next month)

In summary:

Bad:
1. Parking suck. very limited slots. if u miss out; u have to park on streets or Decathlon and make a claim on the paking costs.
2. Room is small..but its new and trendy.

Good:
1. Trendy
2. Lots of public areas if u wanna gather with friends and family
3. Free coffee and tea at lobby
4. Nice view from the rooftop bar

No review:
1. Didn't try breakfast cuz Taichung has so many local options

In short..for the price...good deal! More for the younger crowd..fun theme for sure!

Spent two nights here recently. I think this property is quite a good example of what a Moxy hotel aspires to be, although I'm not sure many of the local customers quite understand or expect it. There were a lot of families, older folks, and tour groups. Quite cheap even for Taiwan, paid around NT3000 per night for a Sat+Sun night stay.

Overall: The place still feels relatively new, rooms are clean and average size for Taiwan, so still quite small. Bed also felt quite small. Bathroom ok size with Japanese toilet and separate shower with good water pressure. Folding table and chair which hang on the wall if not needed, which is good as the space quickly becomes cramped when you set them up.

Facilities: Lobby is big with high ceiling and is bright during the day, there's a pool table and video games, quite a few people hanging out at night but very few actually eating or drinking from the bar, lots of kids running around. Free tea/coffee/water/juice all day in the lobby. Signs everywhere saying no outside food in the lobby, which I'm sure many locals are not used to. The bar is hideously expensive for Taichung and even Taiwan....NT230 for a glass of very average wine and NT340 for a draft beer. Didn't go up to the rooftop bar as I heard it's a NT600 minimum charge (not sure if that's just Fri/Sat night or all the time).

Elite Benefits: Elite treatment better than I was expecting. I was possibly 'upgraded' to a high floor room but it wasn't explicitly stated, late checkout proactively offered. They give you a little card which outlines the elite benefits, as well as a poker chip which can be exchanged for several things at the bar including a free breakfast, so if you choose to use the NT300 daily credit, two people can have breakfast for a total cost of NT118 (although this would only work on a multiple night stay as the F&B credit is "per night" and doesn't roll over to the day of check out).

Location: In a relatively new part of town which is a fair distance from the main eating and shopping areas, although there's an MRT station about 100m away which goes to the HSR station and also up to the dadun area with lots of restaurants. There's a Costco on the next block and the nearest convenience store is about 5 mins walk (a long way for a city in Taiwan). There's definitely not much to do nearby the hotel day or night. As mentioned above parking is limited in the basement and it's TIGHT so you want to be really careful getting in and out. Saturday night it was full but Sunday night there were still spots when we came back at 5pm.

Conclusion: This is a perfectly good hotel for Taichung and pretty good value too, especially if you are a fan of Moxy hotels in general and/or need to clock up a few extra elite night credits.

I stayed there last year, and would add that the front desk team were top-notch. They recommended amazing hidden gem restaurants and destinations.

There was a kind of quite niche local pickled (?) fruit offered at breakfast (Lindley's Pear) - they tried best to consult the chef and search online to explain to me what that was (and it was tasty!)

Yes would agree the staff were great. Young crew which I guess suits the Moxy vibe and they seemed constantly busy at the front desk and they all spoke what I would say is above average English for Taiwan hotel staff. Our only issue was that the young lady working in the bar on Saturday night clearly had no idea what she was doing. We ordered a glass of red and a glass of rosé (using the F&B credit) and she had to consult the menu multiple times whille entering into the POS. It then took about 10 minutes for her to locate said wine bottles and dispense the drinks. In the end we got a glass of cold red and a glass of room temperature rosé which we were not even sure was the wine we ordered. I get that many young Taiwanese are not drinkers but it you're going to charge NT230 for a glass of wine you should at least have someone who knows what they are doing working the bar.
