its a shame, it was a great resort with lots of nice classy brand touches, but the I guess it was struggling during the Egypt tourism dip as the rates just kept getting lower and lower.

Posting here as the only property thread I could find was the old Starwood one from way back.

It left a year ago, give or take, and is now the Retac Qunay Dahab Resort & Spa. I heard that it was below LM brand standards and the owners weren't willing to invest in it to bring it back up, so out it went.

Ah, great, thank you. That's a shame, the rooms and facilities were top notch; I can't imagine what was below brand standards, although it was not very contemporary-artsy (pretty hard to be in a hot, windy, corner of the desert). But it was clear they were relying increasingly on the tour group bookings for income which detracts from the atmosphere somewhat. The Sheraton Sharm el Sheikh down the road is a good example of what happens if you pursue that market.
