Wow, this hotel beat even my highest expectations of gaudiness. It’s truly exceptional.

To add my final impressions, this property is really quite interesting. The decor works in what it’s going for - it’s like I had returned to Hotel Imperial in Vienna (not…). Of course, the Sheraton is not perfect and has plenty of “weird areas,” but as a sub-100 USD a night hotel, it’s a perfectly good value - if you can handle the location away from the Metro and on a relatively trafficky street.

Pros:

• Upgraded to a River View Corner Suite before arrival - nice full suite in the front of the building
• The decor is opinionated and interesting
• Furniture, including couch, was generally comfortable
• Bed was comfortable - medium mattress, covers that weren’t super thick but not paper thin, plush pillows
• Shower pressure (I used the wand) was good
• Good views of the river, but the golden building tint blurs them a bit
• Welcome gift of good lemon tarts and some egg tarts
• Enjoyed the desserts at lounge evening service - good carrot cake, cheesecake, and cream puffs

Cons:

• Breakfast is only served in the restaurant but did not include a make-your-own eggs station, so you were stuck with fried eggs under a heat lamp - disappointing
• Some definite wear-and-tear
• No Metro station close by, and street has lots of traffic for DiDi
