Mid stay upgrade?
I am at the jw phu quoc and they offered a suite for few days of a five day stay. I think it’s a nice gesture. But moving is such a pain.
So if the property cannot upgrade your entire stay but offers one for a portion is that bad form? I had suite nights attached originally. It seems like they should have been able to offer to take less than five up front and gotten something for the effort. |
This is why we can't have nice things. The hotel could have said "we don't have a suite available for the duration of your stay" and that would be the end of it. Instead they offered you a chance to move rooms if you'd prefer, and you complain about it being bad form.
It's a totally different matter if they pulled enough NUAs for your entire stay but then didn't deliver one of the chosen room types. |
If they do not have a suite available for the whole stay but do for, say, the second half of it, offering a guest the choice to move if they want to is good form, isn't it? They don't have to offer, and the guest does not have to accept.
I had this recently on a 3 week stay. I use that hotel regularly and suite upgrades are like hens teeth (only c.3% of rooms are suites). But they came and asked me mid stay if I would like to move for the final week, which I accepted. Had I only been there for 2 or 3.days I probably would have declined. Either way, they didn't have to offer and I had already been upgraded anyway, so it was appreciated. |

There have been lots of complaints on FT but I’ve never heard of anyone complaining because they were offered a free suite upgrade partway through their stay. If you don’t want it, I suggest you politely decline. |
No, not bad form. I think it's quite nice of the hotel to offer you the upgrade. Yes, moving can be a pain, especially after you've been in your room for a few days, but my guess would be that most everyone would trade the pain of moving for a nicer room for part of their stay (either end of it)... myself included!
I was just completing a 3 night stay at a Marriott property, and in the evening of my last night a really loud family moved in to the room next to mine - they were incredibly loud. I went down to the front desk and politely asked to move rooms, and the moved me down the hall (from 910 to 904)... which made moving a breeze. Sometimes we happily move for other reasons... :) |
Bad form? Seems to be they are being super duper nice. And the Turquoise Suites here are gorgeous. One of my favorite properties at Marriott

I have moved mid-stay for an upgrade multiple times. I would rather have a suite for half my time than none. They cannot offer you something they don't have, Be grateful they offered you what they did.

.....complimentary upgrade to the best available room, subject to availability upon arrival, for the entire length of stay. Complimentary upgrade includes suites........ |

That’s not how it works. The hotel does not process the NUAs. What you’re suggesting is fraught with peril. What would happen if they had a suite available for first 3 nights but not last 2? What if a suite was available on nights 1, 4 and 5? Can you imagine the complaints?

If you don’t want it, I suggest you politely decline. I was just curious what people thought. I don’t have an opinion on it. Sometimes I don’t take the upgrade. Honestly it depends if I need it. Moving is a pain and a suite doesn’t mean that much to me. This time I had three of us so the suite was nice. Flyertalk is amazing. |

I love this board! I post a question and I am “whining”.
I was just curious what people thought. I don’t have an opinion on it. As margarita girl pointed out, that wouldn't work in a situation where upgrades were available for the first part of a stay but not the end. I thought that it was a generous offer by the hotel, and, speaking only for myself, your post struck me as complaining. Several people disagreed with your perspective. That's what happens on FT. Lots of different opinions. When you make a post, some people will agree, and others will disagree. |

I'll chime in on the side of, while moving might be a pain, I can pack up in 15 mins or less (definitely less if it's just down the hall) so I would gladly take an UG halfway through my stay than stay in a basic room...and always nice for the property to offer, if nothing else it makes you know they didn't forget about you as a Premium guest at check-in. |
I have added your name to the FlyerTalk Marriott BONV
