No breakfast because restaurant closed!
I just checked into a 4P in the US and am pretty pissed at being told that there will be no breakfast the next morning as their restaurant is closed. I am definitely a breakfast person and was looking forward to a no fuss breakfast at the hotel; instead I will have to waste time and effort and drive around in search of an alternative breakfast venue; not to mention the additional expense.
Needless to say there was no notification of this or else I could have easily booked a different hotel. What would be the best way to deal with this? |

This happened to me at a DoubleTree a couple years ago. They had an electrical problem and had to close the restaurant. We just stopped at Starbucks on the way to our meetings. NBD. Stuff happens.

I've always looked at occurrences like that as part of the adventure of travel! |
Stuff happens, I think everyone can agree there. However just going "oh OK, I don't need to get what I paid for" isn't the answer. The hotel should have some alternative in place. Can be as simple as reimburse $20 upon receipt from local McDonald's. If there's a hotel next door, strike an agreement so customers can have breakfast there. Amother alternative, they could simply take $20 off the hotel rate. Etc... There's multiple ways can be handled.
Things happen, it doesn't mean the business isn't still responsible. Example, I understood that the RI I stayed at didn't produce it's own power. However it was still responsible for ensuring I had power. When it went out for half a day, i expected a refund. Im not in the business of giving companies money for services they then don't provide. If business didn't want to need give refunds, they could invest in generators/solar/etc. |

When you were told that the restaurant was closed at check-in, what else was discussed about the reason for closure, alternatives/compensation from the hotel, and advice about other breakfast venues in the vicinity ?
For those who graciously suggest that travel is not for me for complaining about the lack of breakfast - that is your opinion and I am under no obligation to follow it. |
Huh? OP paid for a room and his full benefits. He didn't get his full benefits and should be entitled to compensation.
Saying travel isn't for OP or just live with it because it's just a 4P and $1.50 doesn't make sense. I didn't realize travel is only for Uber richmb People get worked up over st Regis NY not giving breakfast, why not the 4P? OP, you are entitled to compensation. I'm not sure what that it. Probably not much because it is Marriott but I'd ask to speak to the duty manager and see what can be worked out |
May I suggest the corner Starbucks. Or if you wanted something fancier…the local Denny’s.
I’m sure they gave you the bonus welcome points. Not much else to see here. |
