Partner Status And Benefits

Have a long trip planned for March 2023. My status is going to drop from platinum to gold. I am booking the trip with my points for the Aspen W. I've stayed before and as a Platinum Elite they have a great breakfast included if you are a platinum. My partner will still be a platinum elite, but the booking will be through my account since I have the required points. Is there anyway to apply his platinum elite status to the reservation?

It is up to the hotel if they extend the benefits to your partner since you are the one making the reservation with your account.

why not transfer points from your account to your partner's.. then book room under his account? this way technically you are refunding your partner and using his benefits..

He only has 120,000 points. The rate is 390,000 so even if I transferred 100 now and 100 in jan still wouldn't be enough.

then transfer the points from your account to his. if you had enough points to book it, then this would work to use the plat benefits of your partner..

Shall I be the first pedant to point out the obvious: you mean March 2024 and not 2023 as checking in that date would involve time travel.

If you're in the US you can invest in the Bonvoy credit card that gives you Platinum benefits when you drop to Gold to get your breakfasts.

Unless I'm misreading something, just call the Marriott elite line and ask them to create an award reservation for your friend using your points. You can't do that online, but the Marriott agent can. No transferring of points needed.

I don't think you get status benefits with that.

Now here are a few threads on the same subject. All you have to do is search for spouse or wife in the subject line.

Are you sure? I thought status benefits go with the name on the reservation? In this case, the OP's partner is Platinum, the OP makes the award reservation in the partner's name. The partner's Bonvoy number can be added to the reservation (as it matches the name on the reservation).

I admit I haven't done that in a few years (i.e. prior to Covid), but in the past I'm pretty sure I was able to make a reservation from my wife's account, using my name and I was able to get my elite benefits. Note this wasn't a CC free night cert (i.e. those are NOT transferable). As with many things, I guess it could just be the hotel was being nice to me.

No I'm not, but I'm sure someone will be along to confirm or tell me I'm wrong.

I thought that neither party's status is attached to the reservation because you can't change the member number on the reservation. Or maybe I was just confusing it with neither person will get stay credit, which I am sure is correct.

I saw somewhere that you can gift a stay to another member, and whether there is any benefit depending on the status of the receiver.

I'm here to confirm.

On gifted points reservations, no one gets benefits, no one gets credit. The gifting member is not present in the hotel, and the guest is not paying for the stay. Both make each ineligible for benefits.

This is the official rule. As always, ymmv.
