MGM would prioritize MGMR over Marriott members I bet (overbooking, room upgrades, etc).
I 100% belive this is the case. Achieving MGM Gold and higher requires more spend than Bonvoy Platinum or Titanium (perhaps even Ambassador) so I get MGM wanting to be stingy with benefits. However, what they've come up with is essentially pointless for everyone except MGM Noir or Bonvoy Ambassador.

Just a datapoint, as Marriott Plat, staying at MGM Signature last week, we received no upgrade, a very mediocre room assignment, and they would only extend check-out 1 hour (to noon). This was a last minute booking so didn't really research at all and had low expectations going in. I'll add that I liked not having to walk through a casino to get to our room and that our room was nice and quiet. Otherwise didn't much care for the place. Room was unimpressive, bed was lumpy, and sheets were scratchy.

The relative inactivity on this thread says everything there is to say about how underwhelming this partnership is. You might as well get your room on Hotwire and do the $20 trick because you'll be better off than other Marriott elites (other than Ambassadors).

I would still recommend booking direct through MGM (instead of Hotwire or a 3p) because they treat you better. Eg. if you don't have status, you can do OLCI which can save you 30-60 mins in line but only if you do direct booking not 3p. And do the $20 trick too. If you stay (and play) they also might give you discounted member rates

Can anyone comment about on how the annual suite upgrade works for Ambassadors?

Guaranteed space available upgraded on one stay per year up for a stay up to three nights. There's no certificate / voucher to redeem. I was told to request it through my ambassador.

It did not work for me at the Bellagio a few weeks ago because they were sold out.

I booked through Orbitz for Delano because Orbitz insider price was less than half of the price of mgm directly. I used the confirmation number on Orbitz and put it in mgm app and got online check in no problems. Only thing is I couldnt add Bonvoy account which is expected through ota and no upgrade.

Excalibur is a dump... rooms are dark and nasty. There is a reason they give away rooms to MGM rewards members for free most nights...

Hi Christina, thank you so much for reaching out and offering to help. Yesterday morning the stay finally posted to my account (21 days later) and that was shortly followed by a bit of a snippy email from Marriott "Customer Care Team" (the irony, I know...) replying to my follow up email telling me the stay had posted...felt like I was being scolded like a little school-boy.

Anyways, bottom line, Excalibur is a dump with total Barton Fink vibes and Marriott should change their Customer Service Motto (aside from the Lurkers who are great) to 'we're not happy until you're not happy'.

Excalibur has been for many years been a thorn in MGMs side.
They considered renovating it but felt the ROI wouldn't be there
They considered bull dozing it and starting again but didn't.
I know many that fell for the cheap rate checked in and either asked for their money back
or just left and kept a stay credit. They lure people in on cheap rates.
There are some that are fine with it just as is like Circus Circus

Now the irony is now you can pay Marriott a premium for staying in a undesirable
hotel for a stay credit and meager amount of points
Marriott's poor partnership/relationship benefits nearly assures me I will never stay in an MGM property again
and I spent enormously with the prior Hyatt relationship
Seems Marriott acted foolishly and without thought trying to dominate the Las Vegas hotel market at the expense of their
members who will pay anything just to earn in their program and pay wildly higher room rates
To each their own and let the buyer be educated and aware.

Let me be clear I think Marriott is awesome abroad experience and value wise in select markets.
North America not so much but the Las Vegas MGM Deal
is an embarrassment to the worlds largest hotel company who got on their knees to close the deal.

Aria on-line / app check-in

I'm staying in a Strip view room and have been invited to check-in via MGM app.

If I do check-in via MGM app, will they just assign me a random room? Do I run the risk of getting a crappy low-floor room?
And if I do this and am not happy with the room assignment, do you think it's easy to call the front desk via house phone upon arrival and request to have rooms swapped?

If I don't do the app check-in, will the wait to check-in in person be huge on a Saturday evening?
