Does anyone have the hotel e-mail ?
|
I spent a week on business staying at the hotel. In my opinion, it is very good and does not deserve the bad reviews on the sites. It is indeed a W hotel and they are a bit oddly designed and not exactly my type of hotel, but the location totally makes up for it.

If I had consulted I would have tried to keep things simpler tone down the nightclub bordello lighting in places. That said the breakfast is stunning outdid the Park Hyatt Sydney! I would kill to have a property like that just as is in New York Los Angeles or San Diego even Las Vegas The bad reviews on average are for the green inexperienced team members who are delivering poor service. Location is subjective. While it has close access to CBD somewhat it is surrounded by highways not ideal and somewhat difficult to reach on foot though not a problem though if driving. As much as we went wild for the breakfast which is to much of a good thing one is overlooking traffic. It isn't the serenity of Hyde Park or The Rocks overlooking the Opera House at the end of the day Because the hotel is so big and the team strained and unpolished it may take a long time if ever to offer the personal level of service many Bonvoy elite and non elite members may be ultimately seeking I'd come back just to dine there if they don't mess that up! I wish them well Nice addition to the city even with the bumps in the road Competition is good for travelers to keep rates more reasonable |
Wrong Logo
Did anyone notice that the W logo affixed to the top of the W Sydney is the wrong font? It looks more like Futura Condensed or a version of Tw Cen MT rather than the brand-standard Futura. Seems odd that such an oversight would go unnoticed throughout sign fabrication and installation. I’m like obsessed with W Hotels’ branding so it really disappoints me. The W is literally iconic; it is what makes W. The earlier renderings of the building use the correct font but the actual implementation is incorrect. This error is most noticeable on the rooftop pool level when viewing the interior logo up against the exterior signage. The interior logo is proper Futura with a wider profile. You can see how the angles of the W slants are misaligned. I really hope they fix this because it’s kind of embarrassing to have the wrong logo on your brand’s largest hotel…

Had a 1 night stay as a Titanium using a FNA, SNA/NUA approved to the WOW Suite. Late checkout automatically applied at check in but no early check in offered/available (no complaints, just an observation).
Although, I've never understood why the blinds are powered but privacy sheers are manual. Seems a bit odd. In our last stay we received that chocolate cigar thing, non-alcoholic whiskey and two cocktails at BTWN as welcome gifts. This time we received a tiny jar of candy lol. Hard product is great as expected, but service is where it falls through slightly. I'd say breakfast is as expected but didn't blow me away. In room dining and other dining venues are very good in my opinion. No turn down service (W Melbourne offered it even on a 1 night stay), 29/30 Pool Bar service is quite slow and not the most attentive at clearing out cabanas. Cocktails took 20-30 minutes to come out, but they did comped one drink proactively because it took so long. They mistakenly charged $690 to my folio for a bottle of whiskey the morning after checkout but that has allegedly been refunded as of today. Definitely agree that reviews are harsher than deserved. |

Definitely agree that reviews are harsher than deserved. Some reviews say the service is perfect. When failures occur folks paying 600 and 700 dollars a night have a right to complain There are a ton of interns/inexperienced team members learning on property even if they are nice Last years we found the breakfast to be outstanding and the best part of the hotel. Though the suites were over the top with weird lighting in the bathroom area Not bad certainly nice but perhaps not my taste Where do you get better breakfast quality or variety in Sydney? Thought breakfast was superior to the over rated and pricey Park Hyatt Sydney |

Thought breakfast was superior to the over rated and pricey Park Hyatt Sydney I’m 100% a Bonvoy loyalist, so the only comparable options in Sydney personally are Marriott and Sheraton, and I found breakfast here better than both, although service was a bit slow and not very attentive. I personally really enjoyed the suite, the design and layout was pretty unique so there was some novelty there, although I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to turn on the dresser lights. |
Regarding breakfast - I think the quality of the underlying ingredients at the W Sydney is quite high - all local sourcing, they list the vendors for everything from charcuterie to jams to breads, etc. It isn't standard hotel food service mass produced generic items. Variety is decent, the made to order dishes are generally well prepared too. But in terms of my personal enjoyment of it, I prefer the more elaborate spread at the Sheraton Grand for example, even if the individual product quality is lower there.

well as your take on product quality @ Sheraton What in the US even compares @ that price point ? The Sheraton Grand in SYD my go to hotel does a good job too but it’s been only in the past few years it vastly improved to the credit of their chef Duncan and his team And a fair refresh of the dining room and buffet items variety But quality of baked goods I would still give the nod to the W Much of the pastry is made to far in advance @ the Sheraton and for me it’s a turn off to have refrigerated days old pastry.I suppose they have to produce more volume with the amount of guests they have to feed But I also find less reason to overeat @ The Sheraton Sheraton is the best value in the city for what you get and even with my criticisms I wish there was something like it in every city I visit |

What’s this property like with loyalty recognition and offering upgrades?
|
Very good! They proactively reach out in advance to ask if you have any special things you want arranged. Included breakfast is at the very nice buffet which includes made to order dishes and high end locally made pastries (along with all the standard stuff), and the breakfast option for welcome gift covers it fully. Upgrades for (Titanium at least) to choice of several room categories, and harbor view.

all I got was the W insiders email but nothing about pre arranged things. got upgraded to a spectacular room, but no suite but looks like none available apart from wow suite |
I did want to chime in here as a fan, but it was a short stay so I don't want to say too much. I stayed at the W Sydney, at last, for a night on a long airport stopover on points and used an NUA and got an upgrade to a three bedroom "residence", was one of the more unique hotel rooms that I've ever stayed at - spread over three floors (Floor 1 == 2 bedrooms, 1 en-suite, 1 bathroom; Floor 2 == 1 bedroom and en-suite; Floor 3 = massive kitchen, dining room and living area, pictured). Breakfast was also very extensive and my amenity. It was a generous upgrade and in many ways we were sad that we only got to stay some ~14 hours at the hotel. Oh, and also a bottle of wine on arrival as a welcome gift (not pictured as it was in the fridge). The location of the hotel is excellent for wandering around Darling Harbour of course, it's a buzzing area.
