Four Points by Sheraton Matosinhos, (near Porto) Portugal [Master Thread]
Four Points by Sheraton Matosinhos
https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotel...nhos/overview/
Could not find a thread on this new-ish hotel.
Stayed here in August and absolutely loved the stay.
Staff was super friendly throughout the stay, received a welcome drink of port at reception whilst checking in.
Room was lovely, very well appointed and the bed was very nice. Even received a small in-room welcome amenity.
Location is excellent for the beach, and there are lots of good restaurants around, parking is free at the hotel for guests.
Bar at the hotel is pretty nice, a bit pricey compared to other bars nearby, but a nice place to relax and have a quick drink or night-cap indeed.
Enjoyed our stay here better than at the Sheraton Porto, everything just newer and staff was super nice. Can not recommend more, we will be back :-).

Is it easy and easy drive into Porto to see the sites? We were debating between this Hotel and Sheraton Porto. It's our first time to the area? Is This hotel in an area that is safe to walk around after dark? We are going in December off season. TIA

Recently stayed at the Four Points Matosinhos for a few nights. Great experience overall and we enjoyed the stay.
Location:
Hotel is a block or so from the beach area and has lot of shops and variety of restaurants nearby. We walked around late at night and it felt quite safe.
The hotel is located outside Porto between the airport and Porto so you do need to spend time getting to and from Porto. I used a couple of different options and both worked well. It does take 20-30 mins to get to Porto so you do need to plan ahead a bit as you probably only want to make on daily trip to Porto. Not quite the same as being able to explore a bit, then had back to the hotel for some rest, etc.
Travel options to Porto:
1. Bus 500 to S. Bento leaves from a block away and goes along the river right to the Porto Sao Bento train station. On the way back, it drops you off right next to the hotel by the Pingo Doce grocery store. Fare is €2 one way so pretty easy way to get to/from Porto. Bus runs every 15-20 minutes.
2. Uber. We never had to wait more than 2 mins on the outbound and fare was typically ranged between €7 - €12 depending on time of day. Return was typically more expensive and required a bit more waiting due to traffic congestion.
Breakfast & dining:
Hotel has a good buffet breakfast offering that is reasonably priced at €12.50/person if you include it at check in otherwise €16 on a per day basis. There’s also a cafe/restaurant in the hotel, another one right across the street, and various other cafes and restaurants nearby. If you are looking for something different after several days of Portuguese food, give Masala Magic (Indian) or Mr. Binho sushi a try.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Matosinhos-it's a great jumping off spot for several sites in Northern Portugal. It's a lot like a top line AC hotel. The Breakfast buffet was lovely and included for Plat Elite. There is street parking and parking underground. We had a large car so we avoided that. We found a fluff and fold laundry service nearby and enjoyed pizza. We prefer not to stay in the big cities but rather come home to a quiet hotel in the suburbs when traveling. We stayed here for 5 nights on points in Dec 2022 and we would definitely go back. We landed in Lisbon and drove to the hotel that afternoon/evening. The tollroad highway system in Portugal is excellent. It was raining and unfamiliar and the drive was easy with quite upscale rest stops every 50km or so. This hotel is also in a good spot for exploring the Douro Valley. Sandman is a nice spot on top of a hill for some port wine tasting. The views are unforgetable!

New Marriott hotel not taking the program seriously
From one hotel I'm currently owed points for roughly 50 nights spanning from last year and, extra nights from Marriott's recent promotion have also not been credited (they probably can't because the hotel hasn't credited me with the original nights). Those nights that have been credited are significantly light on the amount of points I should have received. Currently I'm being used as a ping pong ball with the hotel saying Marrriot told them customer's would rather chase these things themselves (!?!) and Marriot saying they wont look into unless I have the folios which I no longer have. The last stay has been credited correctly but previous stay credits are met with a shrug.
I have repeatedly spoken to them but they're not really taking on board that this is important for point collectors. I am thinking getting Amex to claw back all payments so they'll sit up and take note is the best option. They've had their money and I booked through the Marriott website. Hotel is Four Points Matosinhos, Portugal.

Incredibly annoying. I have an ongoing correspondence with Marriott regarding my stay at MonAsty in Thessaloniki (discussed in a separate thread). I'm still one night down.
Around 2010 I boycotted Marriott for several years because I was invariably short changed on points. Then when they took over SPG I came back. Now I'm having second thoughts again.

You should really be able to get folios from hotel, just bug them until you get them. Then submit to Marriott CS/missing stay form

It is awful that they are making you fight tooth and nail for something that should be simple.
One lesson is to always keep the folio until the points post. I always do that.

If the hotel won't provide folios, then dispute the CC charge and see how fast they provide the folios to your CC company which will then give them to you
yes, it is mean, but sometimes you have to be an assclown to get what you deserve - although keeping them in the first place would be the correct answer.

at any Marriott program hotel that I have not stayed at before I always ask for hard copy on the spot. Why? Because the receipt rate via email is only 75%
