I remember a 4-night stay in AMS in Nov 2019. I'd booked the first two nights in the Moxy as AMS is seriously expensive. The first night the bed was so hard that I barely slept more than 3 hours and woke up with terrible back pain - the worst bed I've ever experienced in a hotel (brand or non-brand). I asked to move rooms for the second night and the bed was equally terrible - I had to take painkillers to get any sleep at all. Thank god I was checking out the next day

The second two nights of my AMS stay was staying in the WA using free night certificates (BMG). I still remember the look on the face of the front desk guy at Moxy when I told him I was checking out and going to stay at the Waldorf Astoria for the remainder of my trip :)

That's definitely the biggest gulf in class I've ever experienced when going from one hotel to another in the same city!

I didn't even get to sleep on the bed much, I had the sofa bed and my kids took the bed. I tried it, it was so soft that I didn't think I could sleep well on it anyway.

Yep.

Forget about the "atmosphere" of the hotel, just talk about the bed - which is the reason why we need a hotel, they are not comfortable. I think mattresses in the newer Holiday Inn Express in the US are much better than the European ones and Moxy.

I primarily use Clarion hotels and Scandic hotels in Bergen, and those hotels have breakfast included. Radisson is but a back-up for me there. All of those are preferred by me over the Moxy Bergen -- no less so when the cost for the Moxy Bergen stay is more expensive than even the Radisson.

Ok, we survived 5 nights in Moxy and I agree that it was a bit painful. We bought the bigger room with water view but it was still pretty small. Nothing they can do about it b/c there are no larger rooms. Two main negatives: no proper desk (smaller deal) and no fridge (bigger deal). The first we solved by making desk out of the small futon/round seat and connecting laptop to TV via HDMI. The second one was really annoying given that we wanted some food from the grocery store. On the upside: (1) the hotel is new and well maintained; (2) location is pretty decent if you don't have to be downtown; (3) staff was very nice; (4) the daily credit covers roughly one beer; (5) location is very nice by the water in which you can swim. It also worked for me given the nearby rapid bus stop. The next time I need to be in Bergen I will likely stay again just b/c it's Marriott.

That's what Marriott is hoping that people would do.

After spending a couple of nights closer to the action in Sentrum, I was invited to a party near the University of Bergen - Technical Institute. I figured this was the perfect and perhaps only chance I would have to stay at a Moxy, just across a bridge about a 5-minute walk. Check-in at the bar, which was a first for me but was away from the bar's action so It seemed like its own desk but was part of the bar itself. Was given a sheet for choice of 500 points or $10 USD/guest.

Arrived at 1 p.m. and was given an upgrade to a Queen Sea-view room (the family sleeper was sold out, unfortunately). After hearing this was my first Moxy and I didnt know much about the brand, the fd agent told me "it's like the Mcdonalds of Marriott" 😂. Welcome drink was given and was a sweet gin based premix. I expected this place to have more youthful guests but it seems like a lot of middle aged people.

Was given a room on the 3rd floor right in the middle of the water which provided for a nice view even at a lower floor (5 floors total). There was an ironing room on each floor which one can use and comes with all necessary equipment. The room itself if sparse which I expected with an industrial feel but the beds are rock hard. For a brand which promotes social activities not sure why they chose such a hard mattress. There's only one garbage bin for the room and bathroom which is odd but there is a small desk and circular sofa seat as a "desk chair". Though I saw some people down in thr lobby when I went back after 3pm for my welcome cocktail, it was pretty dead. The thermostat goes down to 17C but didn't drop below 21. It didn't feel that warm and I was barely going to use the room so I didn't bother asking for a engineer. The water pressure was thankfully strong and the water reached very hot temperatures.

Under the hed is a motion sensor for a light that turns off approx. 30 seconds later. Biggest thing is there's no phone in the room! I guess they don't want to deal with any complaints and of course no room service ☹️

Food is served at the bar until 9:30pm, drinks until 1am and there's a grab and go area always available. Breakfast is available for 16 Euro but I didn't have a chance to sample it. A decent amount of restaurants in around 500m away but there's one around the corner and a really nice place called Colonialen Kranen a 1 min walk down by the water.

All in all an uneventful stay at Moxy Bergen but the party was great 🤪. Will not return here for my one night back in Bergen in 12 nights after my Havila cruise. One night was plenty as there are much better options closer to everything for not that much more.

We finally went to Bergen and survived a 2-night stay. From the train station, we took the number 1 Tram, then got off at the Florida station. Walked 5 minutes across a bridge to the hotel.

At check-in, the front desk/bar staff told us this is like the MacDonalds of Marriott. We chose F&B discount over points for breakfast. As Plat, we were upgraded to a sea view, Q room, overlooking the water in front of the hotel.

The room really is "no frills". No fridge, no safety deposit box, no kettle, no wardrobe, no desk/table, no chair, and only one garbage bin in the bathroom. It was also troubling that there is little space for my laptop. There is a piece of wood you can hang down, but only 60% of my laptop could sit on it, with another 40% sticking out. I was worry about knocking the laptop off. Really poor design.

The positives are:
there is one duvet (rather than 2 single duvets in many European hotels),
several usb/usb-c plus in the room,
and motion-sensored lights under the bed.
The TV is big, and has CNN.

The breakfast is skimpy, unlike many other Scandinavian hotels with sumptuous breakfasts. There is a tray for you to pick up breakfast items (not many), and return the tray to a cart, like in school cafeteria.

At check in I told the staff I want to pay the balance with my Marriott GC, she said no problem, just do so at check out. At check out, the staff took my GC into office, and said they took my GC number and will process it in a few minutes. I asked him to print a copy of the bill to me (for balance of the 2 x 2 days of breakfast, minus the F&B vouchers). He said he cannot do that, as the payment wasn't processed. He promised he will email to me (and checked my email) within an hour. We then went off the catch tram to airport. It's been several days, but still no bill sent. We're still traveling, but when I get home I'll need to contact Marriott to get the bill, and find out what's the balance on my Marriot GC.

You get exactly what you pay for with this hotel! Lower your expectations and it is fine and does the job.

However I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stay here or pay more vs. the Scandinavian brands in the center of town.

How's the breakfast at this Moxy? I'm debating whether to make a reservation with breakfast included or not.

I know as a Titanium member I can choose the F&B credit. But, I'm guessing USD$10/person isn't going to cover breakfast.
