Just curious why you didn't name the property?

That would be helpful to the community to either avoid the property or be aware at checkout and prevent them from doing this.

Booked a non refundable stay at Renaissance Warsaw Airport for April, i just spotted that they charged my VISA credit card in GBP instead of PLN which was the currency i authorised via Veryify VISA, so cost of stay is 4.69% more & puts the stay more expensive than Expedia, sent in a complaint with screenshots a week ago, no response, just emailed the DGM.

Went back and looked at my stays at this Hotel last Year, they pulled the same trick

Have you tried contacting your credit card company? If you weren't offered the option of charging in your home currency, they should be able to fix it.

Yes, they told me i can do a charge back after waiting 2 weeks to see if the Hotel will correct this following my complaint

Not that the hotel should do this - they are very wrong. However, one way to proactively prevent this is to use a Amex card as the guarantee credit card as DCC is not possible on Amex.

My UK issued Amex Plat card charges for currency conversion, the VISA card i used does not.

I loathe these "Dynamic Currency Conversions" and would go ballistic if one was foisted on me. Even when given the choice, I do a pretty good job of selecting the wrong option at the PoS terminal

Is the hotel the one that pockets the surcharge or is it the company that has the DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) machines?

I always use the Amex Bonvoy for booking Marriott places as the 6x points counteracts the 3% FX loading (1 point ~ 0.5p), with the kicker being I never have to worry about the DCC scams.

Sure but there is a limit to how many Credit Cards one wants to hold….. My VISA used in this instance charges nothing for exchange rate conversion & uses the VISA live rate to check before you purchase & gives 0.5 % cash back EOY
