Hotel cancels stay. Any chance of claiming Elite Nights?

I’ve just had a six night stay during the double elite night promotion period cancelled because the hotel has delayed its opening for the season. They offered me a stay at a nearby hotel which is nowhere near as good. I have rejected that offer and they have cancelled my booking.

What are my chances of talking the Ambassador Line into giving me the 12 lost elite night credits?

Zero. You didn't stay and pay, so no nights. Ergo, no elite night credits.

I didn’t stay and pay for the 30 nights that came with my credit cards to be fair. I spent $45000 last year with Marriott. I will let you know how I get on.

Those 30 nights were part of the contractual T&Cs related to credit cards. It's not a relevant comparison to your unfortunate situation.

You do have my sympathy and I'm sure most people here wish you the very best getting the nights (plus the bonus night - don't let them off without giving you these) from the Ambassador line based on your annual spend. Be sure to impress on them exactly who you are, what your status is, and how much you spend.

Do update this thread with the outcome.

Yes, please do update us but I will be very surprised if they gift you 12 elite night credits just because you spent a lot at Marriott last year. ESPECIALLY because the delayed hotel offered for you to stay at a nearby property but you turned them down.

airlines routinely give orc so it is not unprecedented in travel industry but i doubt hotels have an easy way to process/post such thing even if csr is receptive to that..

Won't happen. Associates are not permitted to, nor do they have a way to, credit elite nights.

Airlines normally don’t give ORC (Original Routing Credit) if the passenger rejects a re-route offer and accepts a cancellation refund instead.

Along similar lines : having already rejected the alternative accommodation offer and agreed to the cancellation, the OP is in a much weaker position in their claim for Elite Nights.

If it’s important to me that I can take advantage of a double-night promotion, the last place I’d pick is a hotel that “thinks” it will be open in time. I’m sorry you rejected the option they offered. That will be the reason they tell you no.

Wouldn't it have been prudent to take the Reaccommodation and then follow up with Marriott for a "missing stay"?

A few assumptions here which are incorrect.

- I had no idea that the hotel even closed for the winter, even less what its opening date was. I simply booked a suite on the app in the normal way that most people do. It never occurred to me to research hotel logistics - I have no interest in such things. If there was some doubt about the hotel’s ability to meet the booking I would have expected to be warned before my USD1200 per night was taken from my card (seven months ago).

- I am not making this trip to take advantage of the double elite night promotion. I am making it to celebrate my partner’s special birthday. Accepting another hotel that I wouldn’t stay at on a single night layover let alone for a special occasion simply to play the system is not an option,

- in any event, it is all academic. I asked our corporate account people at the office to deal with the situation. I have this evening seen my account credited with all of the elite nights (including the double promotional ones) and my wife has just called to say a large bunch of flowers has been delivered to her by way of apology. We will be staying at a lovely hotel down the road, far nicer than the one we had booked and thanks to Marriott it won’t be costing us a penny more.

thanks for all the helpful advice!

Unless OP’s 45k of personal spend are on top of a corporate account directly with Marriott’s CRS that generated 100k’s of stay revenues, I seriously doubt the the truthfulness of that outcome.

Not buying it at all. The flowers cherry the cherry on top of the bs sundae. No one in Marriott Cust care have the means to send someone flowers lolol. Nor would they. As that wouldn't be in the template used for resolving a complaint. Even amb cant send flowers like that lol. They'd have to ask the hotel to do it for them. And in order for a stay to be posted the hotel would have to process it including submitting the folio....there's just so much wrong here.

Ditto

All of this, and flowers delivered by the next day.
